I have used Bitdefender. Anyways, people should not use something that is not necessary since those binaries often claim they make life easier while slipping a trojan in.
The steps I have indicated are sufficient without installing any binaries, clients, etc...
I personally, don't like EA and their incompetency sometimes, but this time, I believe better not to do something totally risky and unknown.
As for http, the risk is rather whether or not the site has been hacked because old sites are rather vulnerable to poisoning or some geek trying to hack them.

It is not personal, I'm trying to protect the young gamers who are not aware from infecting their computers and to prevent the possibility of their info/credit cards getting stolen and frauded or blackmailed.
A trojan is a trojan, there is zero benefits of installing something that contains a trojan since it only compromises the security of the device and sends back information to the host.
