I found a fix after random tries.... run it in xp service pack 3 compability mode, and it the ting started!

I think I found a solution that has worked so far for me. Here's what I did:
Turned V-sync off in game.
Used an external graphic card control program (EVGA Precision X ver 4.0.0) to manually set Frame Rate Target to 60 fps.
So far I have not had any more random crashes during gameplay. Will update if this stops working.
I had this same problem and couldn't find a solution anywhere but I have fixed mine now. I used Nvidia Geforce Experience to change the resolution because it was trying to start in 1280x720 and when I changed it to 1920x1080 it worked straight away.
