Dead Space 2 survey
I need to share the love so of course I'd be extremely interested in a remake of DS2 and DS3, and a sequel. Anything that would tidy and wrap the story up. Spread the word!
Dead Space 2 is a perfect game, my favorite game of all time in fact. If they remade it, I wouldn't want a single thing changed.
A visual remaster would be incredible, but a remake? I'm not so sure.
(TLDR - Dead Space 2 does not need a remake, but a visual remaster)
Dead Space 2 is my favorite game of all time. It is perfect in every way.
When I see whispers of EA wanting to do a remake, there are some big red flags that come into my mind.
Dead Space 1 was desperate for a remake, it was old and clunky to play, and it had a very outdated feel. Dead Space 2 and 3 are not like that, despite being developed during the same console generation. They feel totally fluid and natural in their gameplay.
While the current remake brought a much-needed update to the original, it lacks some of the finer details that make the sequels feel SO fluid, especially in Isaac's movement and navigation of the world, and that goes double for zero-g sections. (That's not to say the remake doesn't have some incredible small details here and there, but overall it's not perfect in its execution of getting necessary small details right. A glaring example of this is the swarm: as soon as they latch onto you, their character models just freeze until you rip them off, whereas in the 2008 original they would jump on you and wriggle around, giving a much greater sense of urgency to remove them.)
My point in bringing this up is that if they did a remake of DS2, and all those new little details WEREN'T perfect as they currently are, it would be a worse game, even if it looks nicer.
While a visual upgrade would be fantastic for the sequels, that's all they need: a visual update. Higher fidelity.
A full-scale remake is unnecessary and mostly unwarranted, unless you're EA and just want to make more money, as they always do.
If they really want to continue with the Dead Space franchise, I would recommend they continue on with Dead Space 4 instead, which was in the planning stages before the Visceral Games studio was disbanded by EA for not meeting sales expectations.
