Dead Space 3: no special effects & other problems

I've bought DS3 with the Humble Bundle and this is the first game of the pack I'm trying to play with.

Origin UI not working ingame (blinking), can't see the mouse cursor (if there is one), can't see the lifebar on the back on Isaac (I can see it while I'm playing in the prologue and just before I tried to enter the police car in the beginning, but it disappears right after that scene, and it looks like I can't die), can't see the bullets I shot nor any explosions effects (again, this is happening after the police car explosion scene), can't see the blue light thingy on openable doors and can't see the "tracking device". I still don't know if I'm able to coop at all, but I guess with the Origin UI issue I won't be able to.

I have the latest drivers for my AMD card (HD Radeon 6800), I already tried to disable vsync, put lower graphics on with windowed mode, playing with a controller, uninstalling/reinstalling the game.

I can't believethe game is more than 6 months old and haven't been improved with patches. That's like publishing a book with pages torn apart.

I suppose I should feel good to spend some money in charity. Let's try another game then...

Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone able to help me with my current Dead Space 3 issues.

    Thank you anyway.

What worries me is that there is no issue before the cutscene with the man blowing himself up on the police car. Reloading a save just after that doesn't help.

edit: found the fix. Apparently it was caused by my settings in the Catalyst Control Center. Came back to default for everything and it solved it.

  • Honestly, I've never seen someone with that serious of an issue in any Dead Space game. The technician in me wants to say your GPU is faulty, but I assume you can play other games just fine. When you say latest drivers do you mean 13.8, 13.5 or 13.4?

I'm using 13.4 right now (HD Rad 6800 card, Win7 64). I haven't see issues like mine either.

I don't think my card is faulty, every other games I played recently worked just fine (Mass Effect 3, BF3, Witcher 2...).

I didn't have any issue with Dead Space 1 and 2.

  • At least you're on 13.4. That's good. Perhaps it's a problem with a file, or perhaps your computer just doesn't like Dead Space 3. I'm not sure I can be of much help.
