Dead Space 3 Origin/Steam Grey screen crash

Hey, i've been struggling to get Dead Space 3 to work on PC lately. It used to work for years on the exact same computer. any time there's a quick time event the game gets a gray screen then crashes a few seconds later.  Both steam and Origin versions have same problem. 

I've tried windowed with vsync off, reinstalling, verifying files, reinstalling DX setup and vcredist manually. 10+ nvidia graphics updates later and still same issue.
