Dead Space Crashes immediately After Launch

I downloaded it when it was free cause I thought it would be cool to play again (played it on xbox). Game crashes immediately upon starting. Have tried repair, turning Origin overlay off, running as administrator, running in compatibility mode, and running with visual themes disabled. I am running Win7 Pro 64bit. Every time it crashes with this event.

Faulting application name: Dead Space.exe, version: 1.0.0.222, time stamp: 0x48dbcf01
Faulting module name: Dead Space.exe, version: 1.0.0.222, time stamp: 0x48dbcf01

Report Id: 609b941b-c32b-11e3-b504-0026833b2b92

EDIT: Looking around, I see a lot of posts saying to disable HID compliant anything in the device manager. I have also tried this, with no luck.

(cm edit - updated title)

I finally found an entry far down on a Steam forum post about Dead Space crashing. They mentioned disabling their HOTAS worked. I have a Saitek that doesn't show under HID devices, as the HID is after Saitek in the device name. Disabling these let the game run.

  • Dead Space 3 crashes on launch.

Sometimes nothing happens, I hit play button in Origin the button goes dark and after a few seconds I can click on it again
Other times I get this Application Error:

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005).
Click OK to close the application."

May I know why was my thread merged with this one?

I don't own Saitek HOTAS and the problem is definitely NOT SOLVED.

0xc0000005 (Access Violation) is a generic error code that Windows can throw for a plethora of things.

I've tried disabling HID devices and unplugging everything except my KB/mouse and that doesn't solve it either.

Please mods, it would be courteous to ask me 1st if Thread-X solves my problem, and then merge / mark my thread as solved.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately I am not running any monitoring / oc software in the background (like Msi Afterburner, Riva Tuner etc.).
  • @SehIee I have the exact same problem and no fixes I tried solved anything. Same with DS2 btw. DS1 runs like a charm for some reason

    I fixed it.

You have to add deadspace.exe as an exception under 'programme settings' in 'exploit protection'.

    Doesn't crash anymore.

Windows security -> app & browser control -> exploit protection -> programme settings -> add programme to customise -> deadspace3.exe

Tick box for "Force randomisation for images (Mandatory ASLR)" and turn it OFF.

Tick box for "Randomise memory allocaitons (Bottom-up ASLR) and turn it OFF.

    Hey Everyone

As this thread is a bit old at this point, things have changed and been updated, we are going to lock this down so that we can prevent any necro-posting.

We have a new thread set up Here so we can start tracking any new issues around this one.

    Cheers!
