I know what you mean about the lights off bit, like even in chapter one when changing/ shutting down circuit breakers. At very first I didn't like it either, I mean, literally could see next to nothing!
But I'm old (in my 50s) so quickly adapted to it.
I believe the jump scares, but especially leaving you "blind," doesn't really happen in 2023. People playing it for the first time, or someone in their 20s that may be fine, but it could be off putting and take a while to get used to that kind of thing.
It's interesting because just as much, or more, as tech has changed from 2008 to now, so have these "small," things. Seeing as Deadspace 2008 is still very viable graphically 15 years later, the way the game proceeds - sorry can't explain - but I haven't played a modern game that uses these kind of technics and more. Times change.
I have no preference, and am quite happy to move with the times. Mmmm...come to think of it if I didn't move with the times there would be nothing to play! I'd have to replay my games from that era,.
Forgot, it's not a sudden change, and I had never noticed it. But when the same game is properly remastered and doesn't cater to the "modern methods, " what ever that means, ha,. It becomes
clear. Interesting,
You're spot on about the original from 2008. I am currently playing through it again, and it still looks amazing to me. I cant wait to play this new version, but I'm not mad at the original, in any capacity!

I recently replayed the original to hype myself up for the remake and was pleasantly surprised how well it held up. That said, I'm glad the team took the time to make some quality of life changes based on feedback.
Crazy to think of certain technical limitations they were able to work around then

I watched a lot of their streams. They showed off a lot of technical things that they had to change, how they compared to the original one, and what it took to overcome those. It was really cool to see the backend of how they did these that we normally do not see happen.
