Press&hold button to open map stops working

The default scheme for controllers on PC is:

Press "menu" button - opens inventory

Press & hold "menu" button - opens map screen

After playing for some time the press & hold stops working correctly and opens inventory, as if just short pressed. I couldn't determine precise event that this happens, like a cutscene or picking up an item, but it happens every time I play after some time. It doesn't matter where in game I am, I've seen it on multiple saves in different chapters.

The issue doesn't go away until you restart the game. After that it works correctly for some time and then at some point stops again until another restart.

I'm experiencing this on PC with a wireless Xbox One controller. Tried also with wired connection, doesn't help. Tried enabling/disabling steam controller overlay, didn't help. Other users on steam forum confirmed they also experience this, some of them on the dual sense or other controllers. All button mapping is at defaults.

Hi @chrisaverage I don't have any updates to share past the most recent update

If this is still continuing to happen we can try running through steps to see if the game is corrupt.

    • Check for other applications that may be limiting EA App or Game performance
    • EA App's Cache (Top Left Menu > Help > App Recovery)
    • Repair/Verify your game based on which client you are launching from
      • EA App - Repair (My Collection > Tile Dots > Repair)
      • EGS - Repair (Library > Tile dots > Manage > Verify)
      • Steam - Verify in your library

  • @EA_Illium Yes, the default keyboard I for inventory and M for Map keep working correctly after the issue occurs.

While checking this I also discovered that using keyboard to open the inventory or map is what triggers the issue. After using keyboard for any of those functions the press&hold on the controller stops working correctly and always triggers the inventory (short press).

I don't usually use keyboard at all when I play, so I think there might be other ways to trigger this, but this is 100% reproducible every time:
    - load or start new game
    - check that press&hold on controller opens map (yes)
    - press M or I on keyboard to open map or inventory, exit it
    - check that press&hold on controller opens map (no, it opens inventory now)

I also checked if other keys trigger this as well, but from what I can tell only the map/inventory keys on the keyboard cause the problem.

  • @EA_Illium I don't know why on Earth would you mark this as a solution. NO, verifying files in steam does not fix an evident bug in input system of the game. I gave you a 100% reproducible steps to recreate the issue. An accepted solution would be "The issue was reproduced on our side and forwarded to developers. A fix is lined up for the next patch release". This copy/paste response is NOT a solution.
  • I've been experiencing the same problem on Ps5 as well. Some people say it is triggered by entering the Log menu, but sometimes it'll still work even after you do that.
