(PS3) Dead Space 2, Chapter 5: Boss Glitch Causes Crash

When I was playing chapter 5, I made it to the part right before the cutscene when Isaac finally meets Daina. I made a save file before the cutscene, I usual save at every point, as I made it to the cutscene everything went smoothly. Watched the cutscene, played my part, and dropped down the service hatch. Now at this point of course I met a lovely and friendly brute that helped me from getting crushed by debris and threw me down the long hallway. (jokes aside) Now it comes to the part where Isaac has to open the door that is behind him with TK, I opened the door and move towards the open space for the next interactive cutscene. Then Isaac just stands there with the camera fixed on his legs, the scene carries on and sometimes either the brute dies due to the ships gun fire or the ship explodes on its own. But Isaac still just stands their.

****Now before I get any responses, Here is what is known and what has been done.****

1. My Console is not the issue (still fairly young about 4 years old).

2. As for Space I have 348 GB / 465 GB so I still have a bit of leeway.

3. Disk Is Clean, again not the issue (Hardly Any Scratches and I've clean the disk thoroughly and carefully myself)

4. I have deleted the game console data (NOT the Save Files) and retried nothing changed.

5. I have started the game without downloading the v 1.02  update and again with it, and as well no change.

6. I have disconnected from the media server. Again nothing.

I have tested all multiple possible solutions and all ending the same. I understand some players may not have this issue. And that some players might not have any issues at all. But for me this is an issue that is making me unable to complete the game. And is also making my experience less enjoying that I already pumped myself up for. I really would like to complete the entire series. For I do extremely enjoy the story, genre, and setting.

Thank You for any responses.

@EA_Bastian Thanks for the response. I actually decided to purchases another disk from my local gamestop. Apparently there were small scratches on the disk (under direct bright light pin sized) that were affecting the game. I couldn't believe how these, at the most, 10 tiny scratches were ruining my game. But I discussed this matter with one of the stores employees and said he experienced this same scenario with another game. Not to worry thug, as said earlier, I decided to purchase another copy and the game played smoothly. Actually got to finish the game the same day. Once again though Thanks for the Response!

@DarkSpaceKidd22 thanks for your detailed report and sorry that you have trouble completing the game. Might worth a shot to perform a hard reset on your console but as you have already tried various workarounds, there is not much else we can try on your console:

    1. Turn off Playstation 3.

    2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.

    3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps

    4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.

    5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button

    6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

    7. Select Restore File System.

Do you have any older save-files to check if the save-file itself is glitched?

    Cheers

@DarkSpaceKidd22 okay thanks for keeping us updated! It can indeed happen that even small scratches causing issues if the damaged sectors on the surface are basically crucial data for running the game on specific sections.

    Cheers
