Playing Dead Space Remake on PlayStation 5, using a PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller, "Aim Assistance" usually doesn't work.

@Embram56 Hey, can you provide more info on what you mean by it usually doesn't work? Has it changed any as you progress? Have you reinstalled the game at all or reset the settings in the options menu?

What I mean by "it usually doesn't work" is that occasionally, when I have "Aim Assistance" turned on in the options, when I pulled the trigger button the crosshairs snap to the critter attacking me (usually a lurker), but over 90% of the time, that doesn't happen and I have to try manually using my thumb on the right joystick to try to aim at a moving target (which I am incredibly bad at). So the only way I've been able to play the game successfully is on the "Story" setting, which takes practically no skill at all. How is "Aim Assistance" supposed to work?

And yes, I have tried resetting the settings. Any particular settings (aside from Aim Assist) that arew supposed to be set a certain way? And the non-working of Aim Assistance did not change throughout the entire game.

Have I reinstalled the game? What does that even mean when one is playing on a PS5 console and controller? Do you mean erase the entire game from the console memory (not that I know how to do that yet, but I suppose I could figure that out). But how will that do anything? And if I do that, will I lose the record of my previous game so I won't be able to play New Game+?

@Embram56 For the Aim Assist, we can only go over how it should work, not how the game specifically is programmed because we are not the game team. As for uninstalling it, when you reinstall on the console, and you have a solid connection, it deletes all settings, updates, games, and patches for the game installed. Since consoles have very limited steps in troubleshooting, there's only a handful of ways to delete settings or profile data without deleting the saves.

Uninstalling won't delete your progress. You would have to manually delete that yourself. If a specific mechanic for the game in the settings is not working as it should work, and not as we want it to work, then a full reinstall (if not tried) would be the next step. Once that does not work, you test a different controller to rule that out.

After that, we have to bug report it since it is a game mechanic. As for any New Game + saves, those are not the same save files and should not run into the same issue unless the game mechanic itself is at fault. So it is a trial and error getting it to work correctly.

Thank you, but my primary questions seem to be unanswered (or perhaps I just don't understand your answer), and left me with a couple of additional questions.

    1. You say you are not the game team, which I imagine is the team responsible for making sure the game works on the major platforms, like PlayStation. But you, the "technical issues" support group, don't include and/or can't ask the game team questions about how the game works on PlayStation? How is anyone supposed to get technical support without input from the game team?

    2. You say you can only go over how Aim Assistance should work. Okay, so HOW SHOULD IT WORK? You didn't say.

    3. You say, "As for uninstalling it, when you reinstall on the console, and you have a solid connection, it deletes all settings, updates, games, and patches for the game installed." But then you say, "Uninstalling won't delete your progress." Okay, so how do I do that? How can I uninstall the game from my PS5 and then reinstall it without deleting my progress?

    4. You say, "As for any New Game + saves, those are not the same save files and should not run into the same issue unless the game mechanic itself is at fault." Please elaborate. Are you saying that those are kept in some EA computer as information related to my account or profile, not in my console, so they can't be deleted by uninstalling/removing all game and save data from my console?

    5. Finally, you say, "After that, we have to bug report it since it is a game mechanic." Okay, have you reported it as a bug? Or if I have to do it, how do I do it?

I'm looking forward to your answer, especially your answer as to "How should Aim Assistance" work?" What should I be seeing? And secondarily, what settings (aside from the Aim Assistance setting) should be set to what in order to make that happen?

PS – I have already tried using different controllers; it doesn't matter.

PPS – When you write, "it's a game mechanic" do you mean it's a problem with game mechanics? Or a problem with the game engine?

You say you can only go over how Aim Assistance should work. Okay, so HOW SHOULD IT WORK? You didn't say. Perhaps it is working correctly and I don't know it because I expect it to do something else. I expect Aim Assistance to move the cursor to the nearest or next enemy when I pull the aim (L2) trigger. It doesn't do this. Is it supposed to work a different way?

@Embram56 Apologies. With the holidays and backlogs, sometimes replies don't happen as quickly as we would like.

For Aim Assist, this is hard to say whether or not someone is doing it correctly unless we are right next to you watching what you are doing. Teaching someone how to use it is a bit out of our scope of support. As for how it works, This link is a pretty good explanation, as well as the Apex Link that goes into it as well.
