Can't get higher resolution settings in DA2

I am running on Windows Vista(64bit version), and have Direct X 10.  I have downloaded and installed the high resolution texture package, but the HIGH and VERY HIGH video settings are still shaded.  I don't understand what the problem is?  I have an I5 processor with 4GB or RAM and am running a Nvidia GEFORCE GTX550ti video card w/2GB of GDDR5.  I know my computer can handle it, so why can't I access these settings?

I can only comment about the "Very High" settings.  There is no other option than Dx11 to handle that level.

  • The Microsoft package for getting DX11 onto a Vista machine isn't part of a SP or patch (although it does require SP2).

    It's MS KB971512.

  • @radaghast15;  goraththeelder is correct.  The "Very High" textures are only available to be selected if you can implement DX11 as the renderer.  Since you only have DX10, this is impossible on your current rig.

I *think* that there was a hotfix to supply DX11 software for Vista, but don't quote me on that.  Google is your friend in this situation.

Thx for the feedback.  DA2 itself tells me(when I try and select Direct X11 as a renderer) that it is only supported by Vista SP2 or Windows 7.  I know my Vista is totally up to date as well as my graphics drivers, byt when I try to install DX11 it tells me I have the latest version already installed? WTF
