DAI windows 10 crash on startup

Hi, I played DAI on windows 7 and it was fine. Now I got a new computer with windows 10 and the game can't start.

A few second after I clicked play in Origin, a window showed up and immediately disappeared.

I assume this is a problem with windows 10, my Nvidia driver is up to date (I think, I can play other games with no problem), and I tried couple fixes I found here, and none worked for me.

Here is the dxdiag:

Your problem is that nVIDIA drivers aren't good enough lately.  Far too many of them are literally incompatible with quite a few of EA's games, and the laptop ones fail to reset properly, allowing only the Intel chip to run, which will fail.  You need to visit an nVIDIA support site to get a copy of the guide to using the Geforce Control Panel (and don't waste much time on their buggy program called "Experience".  It's practically useless when you want to play EA games.)

    ---------------
    Display Devices
    ---------------
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 5600
           Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M
          Manufacturer: NVIDIA
              Chip type: GeForce GTX 970M

  • Thanks for including the dxdiag. 🙂

Really not useful when those error windows pop up and disappear before you can see what they say. 😛

Have you made sure the Nvidia is set up to run the game over the Intel? (Seems to be a common issue). You can do this via Nvidia control panel > manage 3D settings. You can either make the setting global or specific for the game.

Other than that, I know there have been some issues with Nvidia drivers now and then, not sure if the current ones have had problems with this game or not.
Nothing else really sticks out to me in your dxdiag. I could be missing something rather obvious, though. 😛

And if nothing else works, you'll need to go through the usual:

Have you tried repairing the game? (Right click in Origin, select 'repair game')

Have you tried launching Origin and the game as an administrator? Windows 7 compatibility mode?

Have you tried launching in windowed mode? (It seems to prefer that on laptops). I think you should be able to alter that setting using GeForce experience (as well as other graphics settings).

OK, that's all the ideas I'm capable of coming up with at the moment. Good luck, let us know how you go. 🙂

Thank you for your help!  I got the game working! The game was using intel chip to run. I changed 3D settings in control panel, and now can launch the game using Geforce Experience, but not with Origin.

Again, thank you so much for your help and reply!

And for some reason, Dragon Age Inquisition is not in the program setting panel for nVidia control panel, but it's in Geforec Experience. I can launch the game with Geforce Experience, but I have no clue whether that's because I changed the 3D settings in control panel or simply because I launch the game with Geforce Experience.

Anyway, I got the game working now. Thanks for the help!

    @CyberLauren

It sounds as though you also needed to disable the "In Game" overlay from Origin?  Anyway, we are happy to hear of your resolution of the problem!
