DAI won't launch

Hi there!

I know it's kinda late to say this, but after my origin updated DAI (2016 december) my game didn't launch anymore. I see only black screen for a second. My game worked fine after this update. I'm kinda angry 'cause I really want to play DAI again.

I've been trying everything what I've seen in internet, but nothing help.. I even tried to uninstall and install my game again.

Is there anything what should fix my problem?

@Sharknado93 Sometimes AV programs (or firewalls) can cause issues which don't give error messages but can prevent the game from launching, that's why I suggested making sure you have an exception added for both DAI and Origin (though I did forget the firewall part in my previous post, so may want to check that, too). AVG is the main AV program that has this issue, but it's possible it could happen on a different one.
Well, at least we got your other games performing better, unrelated progress, yay! 😛

First thing, have you tried doing a repair of the game through Origin? (Right click the game in your Origin library, select 'repair game'). Always the first thing we suggest as it's easy, quick and doesn't require a great deal of downloading or anything.

Have you tried (just in case something got mucked up) deleting the profileOptions_profile file found in Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age Inquisition > Save? This will cause your settings (such as graphics options) to revert to default, which can be useful if something in there is what's causing the issue.

Are you using any mods? The cutscene FPS command line 'fix'? (If you don't know what the latter is, I'm guessing no, so don't worry about it). If so, have you tried running the game without those things?

Do you have any parental control programs on your computer? Those have caused issues for some people, even when not running (though I think it was more connection issues than game launching, doesn't hurt to check).

There was also another program causing this issue a while ago, can't seem to remember what it was... Will try and find it tomorrow, really need to get some sleep now. 😛 Let us know how you go 🙂

    Hi @Sharknado93,

If you've already tried all the solutions shared on AHQ then you'll need to contact the support team directly.

Otherwise, please list the troubleshooting steps you've already tried so the community can offer more advice.

Thanks for answering! I can't remember all those things what I've been trying out, but I found this hastebin thing so here is link in my own hastebin -> http://hastebin.com/odidosujor.tex

I hope someone can help me fix this or found a problem? Also I'm going to contact the support team soon if I don't found any help in here.

@Sharknado93 Your GPU drivers appear to be from 2014, you may want to update those 😉 AMD drivers can be found here.

Also, just to check, have you added an exception for both Origin and the game to your anti virus program? Sometimes that can cause launching issues. 🙂

    Hey there!

I updated my GPU drivers and my other games work better now, but my DAI won't still launch. I only see a black screen for a moment. I also check my virus programs but there wasn't anything what would launching these issues.

Thanks for helping me! I maybe need to send a note to Origin..

Hey! Thank you so much for helping me! I mean it!!

I checked out again my virus program exceptions list (AVG) and I noticed that my DAI.exe was the one in my window screen. (I don't know how to explain this) so I tried out and put on the list my DAI.exe on the folder where I have all my DAI stuff downloaded. And that work!

So people, check out your AVG it's a pure devil. And try to keep your eyes open. I've been really blind..

@Sharknado93 So adding to this thread, since EA now is on the steam store I've had several issues with Origin and Steam not communicating with each other. When I try to launch DAI, Origin won't launch it since it's been purchased on Steam, and Steam won't launch it because it says "App already running".

Fix: Had to use task manager to force quit Origins and then launch DAI directly from the shortcut rather than using Steam. Might have to do this repeatedly,
  • Already uninstalled and re-installed, changed firewall settings, and this wasn't working before mods and the failure point is still exactly the same with mods leaving me to believe mods have nothing to do with the issue. also considering that I quite literally only use Origin to launch games it seems like an overly complicated extra step. DAO runs just fine without it, DA2 and DAI seem to have problems because of Origin. Is there a workaround, so that Steam can launch the game without Origin?
