DAO won't start

Hello in the recent time DAO wen't free on origin so i grabbed a copy for me days ago, during the first installanion attempt i had a issue with the VC++ not installing on the machine, i have worked around it by simply getting the 2005 redistributable from the microsoft network. With patience i tried again the installaion process which went smooth and clear this time, once  finished the game asked for patching to 1.05 version(if i remeber correctly) i let the patcher finish his job and then origin stated that the game was ready to play. Well you know what? The game did not started at all, after pressing the big orange button the PC start some processing(You can say it by the change of mouse  with the processing of win7 animation) and the button itself becomes grey and not usable anymore  , all this for just a few seconds then the mouse turn back at normal state and the button comes back to it's original state like the game did not even started loading.
Well with patience i wiped out the isntallation, re-downloaded it entirely ( more than 15 gbs with a sucky less than 1 MB/s italian DSL) for the second time, then installed the program again , with no issues, patched it and ........it did the same thing again; this time i tried the "repair" option waited till the game "repaired" itself and tried once again to launch it but nothing changed, the game still won't load.

TLDR: The game when prompted to lauch start loading(with no screen or anything else, just the PC processing soemthing) and then stops.

My specs just for fun:

Spoiler
Intel E6600 CoreDUO
4 GBs of RAM
NVidia GeForce 450 GTS
Win7 x64

I really want to spank myself with a spiked club right now, but at least i managed somehow to start the game, and i hope this helps anyone who will encounter my same problem:

I have Comodo Antivirus installed on my PC (The free version of course) and for some reason it stopped DAO from starting , but without any warnings about it , so for just for a combination i went in the game folder and found the executable of DAO and launched in in the SANDBOX MODE of COMODO.....with horribly astonishment it started .

So for anybody with my issue you have to SANDBOX the EXE of the game to play it, or give it permission manually in the antivirus, something i did not test.

Well i guess COMODO hates DAO..or origin, or even EA.

  • Try going into the games folder (like E:\Origin\Origin Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship) and launch the daorigins.exe from there.

  • You are the man !!! I searched for days, now i have the solution, thank you :D

  • I have the same problem and have searched for a solution for 2 weeks. Since I also use Comodo (which ist not spreaded to a very large extent), I am pretty sure that your solution will also work in my case. So thanks for posting your experience!

I am looking forward to testing it after work ;-)
