Did I buy the wrong new system

More than the CPU, your graphics card is likely to not cut anything lower than low setting on this game. It is an insanely demanding game (mainly because of poor optimization), and if you can you should really go at least in the x60m series which is pretty midline for Nvidia. I will qualify that I am currently running the game on an old ivy bridge i7-3630 (quad 2.4) 8gb ram with a 660m at about 30fps on low settings in campaign and have to go to min settings for play-ability in MP. 

I haven't seen too much on the ability of this game to run on dual core vs quad, but you could check out the benchmarks of my portable system (I use a separate tower for real play), vs yours and just note that if anything is lower than mine, it probably won't play at all.

So much is dependent on what you want out of the game, that this is sadly the best I can say for you.

I take that back. The 660m I am running is better than the 840m even though it is two generations older. You NEED to get a better one to play the game. Here is a comparison:

Wow. This game must be a bear. I'm now not sure that I can cancel the order. Even if I can, I probably can't afford to get a more expensive system, since I went $175 over budget with this one. I'm gonna try it out when the computer arrives. If it doesn't work, I may just sell the game on eBay....no matter how much I was looking forward to checking it out, I can't justify to the wifey spending even more to be able to play 1 game. Anything else that I play will zoom with this new system.

Just a warning. NOTHING ELSE YOU PLAY WILL ZOOM WITH THAT SYSTEM.

The 840m which is a generation behind current cards, is two generations ahead of and still gets out-preformed by the 660m, and I can tell you straight out there are loads of games my card struggles to handle. ANY MAJOR TITLE will have to be played on min settings from here on out with that system of yours, and it might not even be able to manage that, the cpu is also very suspect.

EA games cannot be re-registered after they are linked to a player account.  Compared to many of 2014's / 2015's games, DA: I has / had lenient requirements; in many regards, more like a 2013 game, IMO.

I almost exclusively play a tactical level WW2 game (I am also the game's tech support guy and beta tester) that ran great on the piece of junk (I don't remember the specs on that off the top of my head) that I am replacing. The only other thing that I've played in the last couple of years is Skyrim, which ran "ok" on the piece of junk. Man, have I ever lost touch with what's hot in the gaming. It ain't easy getting old. 🙂 I loved the first DA game (not so much the second) and asked Santa for this without checking the specs.

The game is very well optimized for Mantle, but it's true that Nvidia and non-GCN Radeon cards got the short end of the stick.
