Direct X Error Crashes Dragon Age Inquisition To Desktop (Details)

My game has crashed to desktop twice. All drivers and details are up-to-date and in place. Using Direct X 11 on a  Windows 7 64-bit system.

With each crash, the error message from Direct X says the following, verbatim. Hope this helps with patching/bug fixing efforts:

Direct X function

"GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is a design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed.")

GPU: "AMD Radeon HD 5800 Series", Driver 14.9 (14.301.1001-140951a -176154C)

I am using a GTX 680. Set everything to "Medium" in graphics options. Turn off anti-aliasing. No more crashes and you won't notice the difference visually. Or you can buy a new video card. I would rather not. Choice as always is yours.

    Cheers!

Happening to me as well. This happens exclusively after in-game cutscenes. I just had the talk with Blackwall about the dog and it Directx errored. Same thing happened after the scene with Morrigan showing me the Eluvium stuff.

    Latest NVIDIA drivers

    GTX 980

    Win 10 64-bit

    16gb mem

MSAA is the likely culprit, my dual Titans crash with DAI if I turn MSAA on but, everything else can be high/ultra/fade touched - whatever its max is and zero crashes.

    still no solutions?

  • I am also having this problem now having previously played the game since it came out with no issues.

I am getting the following error message

DirectX function 'GetDeviceRemovedReason' failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET (The device failed due to a badly formed command. This is a run-time issue. The application should destroy and recreate the device.) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT, Driver: 34192.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Been played without a single crash for over 6 months. Now i performed a clean win 10 x64 re-installation, all drivers,soft/hardware are up to date, making clean game installation, but DD:I after latest update, refused to start.I get non stop DX errors and crashes like everyone else here. EA are you joking with us? Still NOT a fix for a MAJOR problem? I play TONS for other EA titles suchs as BF:BC2,BF3/4,CRYSIS 1-3,etc, since they released, and NEVER had similar pathetic problems..And as far as i can see you still CANNOT fix it and you ignoring us. Maybe it's time to ask for a REFUND for a total broken title?

@devilvidel It's actually impressive you got the game to work in the first place, as it actually doesn't meet the minimum requirements (Nvidia 8800 GT, compared to your 8600 GT). More recent DLC and patches may have actually increased what the game requires to run (I know people who could previously play on Intel cards - certainly not meeting minimum requirements - couldn't after installing Trespasser). Some people who've upgraded to Windows 10 have also had issues when they didn't before. It may not be the cause of your error, but it's still likely to cause issues in the game for you.

@PsychocuIt I understand your frustration, but unfortunately these boards are not monitored by EA (except for a few Community Managers). These boards are here for players to help each other out with game or technical issues. Also, EA did not create this game, Bioware did. 😉
Unfortunately, if you've been playing the game for 6 months, I think you're beyond the point of qualifying for a refund. You could always contact a game advisor from EA to find out, though, you can do that here. (Don't say you're reporting a bug, for some reason that gets people redirected back here).

  • Game has run fine, no real issues, run on mostly ultra/fade touched, until the other day, I get this same crash. Not even 5 minutes after loading a save, every time. Someone mentioned sound issues in a previous comment.... which I can report having. Weird sputtering where the sound would loop. I simply figured it was my computer trying to play catch up, however my task manager isn't showing signs of it really working hard. All of this is strang. Trying a possible fix from another board related the processor, but I'm doubtful.
Next I guess I'll try disabling my hdmi audio output.
I doubt anyone else will post a fix. Shot in the dark here. I'll try disabling msaa, as a previous poster suggested. Thanks for that, by the way.

Hey all.  Not sure if anyone is still looking for a solution here but for me it was an easy fix! In Nvidia control panel, navigate to "adjust desktop size and position", and put the scaling mode to "no scaling".  This was causing problems in other games too and when I switched this everything worked fine!

    Hopefully this helps somebody!
