Dragon Age Inquisition Black Screen

Whenever I try to play DAI, I get stuck in a black screen and can only see my mouse cursor and something in the right indicating that the game is loading. What can I do? My PC is not a dual core.

I get this black screen problem too when trying to start the game.

If I wait, the black screen and bottom-right-loading-sigil eventually go away, then I can see the EA logo very slowly appear, and the sound is incredibly choppy (maybe one beat of sound every half second).

I never get to see any game menu or cutscene or anything.

    :-(

Upgraded to latest AMD beta drivers.  Uninstalled them, reboot, reinstalled.  Same problem.

Tried repair game + rerun vc redists.  Same problem.

    Tried running windowed.  Same problem.

My graphics card seems to work to run Skyrim fine.

I seem to have the same issue as the others.

    Edit

Maybe it's just me but the game uses about 90% of the CPU when I look in task manager, so that could explain why it's so slow.

AMD has released drivers for this game that are better than what you have now.  A clean install is in order to make certain it works as best it can.

I think I found + fixed my problem.

I have a 4 core CPU, but task manager showed 1 "CPU", and msconfig was limiting me to 1 CPU.  (I'm not sure how that happened!)  Anyway, I unchecked the box in msconfig, then of course windows failed to boot, I couldn't restore to a working config, and had to reinstall all of windows.  That's a nightmare which isn't finished yet.

Now I see 8 "CPUs" in task manager, and have got through the logo screens to the DA:I game menu.  So hopefully it's fixed and playable.

But now it's time to get some sleep...

For all those of you out there struggling trying to get this damn game working, I might have a solution for you. I had massive issues early on when I started playing. I installed different AMD video card drivers, DirectX, Visual Basic runtime, compatibility mode and so on. I tried them all! With the latest patch 7 I have it now fully working without any crashes. The trick?

It is a AC power issue! I had set my desktop in Windows Power Options to power save. Changing that to 'high performance' now makes it work. My theory is the profile 'power save' or 'balanced' must restrict the power getting to the PCIx bus or video card or both. There is enough power now from my 850W power supply with this setting to run my crossfire setup also without any issues with everything maxed out. Hope this helps.

If it works for you put it in the comments so others know.

**One other thing. I saw someone have success with under-clocking their video card. I tried it previously and it work for quite sometime. That would make sense now as the card would be drawing less power.
