Dragon Age: Inquisition Refuses to Launch After Recent Origin Updates

Hello.

I've been through a few different threads on this and other websites, trying to figure out why Dragon Age: Inquisition will no longer launch. I've reinstalled Origin/Dragon Age a number of times, disabled Origin in-game, and have even gone so far as to wind back my Windows 10 updates to a previous backup, to when I knew Inquisition worked (and, I'm not surprised, it didn't work even then). This all happened after an Origin auto-update--which I can guess was perhaps my first mistake, setting Origin on auto-update? I don't know. I'm at my wit's end because I really love this game and I want to finish all the DLC finally, as well as play online with friends in my gaming community, but I can't.

I've attached a dxdiag to this, on the off-chance anyone can help. Thank you.

    AAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA IT WORKED. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAS.

Man, you are a lifesaver. I thought I had tried that with Avast earlier, but I guess I truly didn't. Now that it's working again, I'll have to make a quick save file and add it to the exclusions on AVG. Thank you so much. :D

  • From your DxDiag file....

    Event Name: APPCRASH
    Response: Not available
    Cab Id: 0

    Problem signature:
    P1: DragonAgeInquisition.exe
    P2: 1.0.0.0
    P3: 5600f278
    P4: aswhooka.dll
    P5: 17.5.3.9168

If you google aswhooka.dll you will find that it is related to Avast antivirus....so what has happened is, you haven't updated your Avast exclusions since Origin updated and thus Avast is back to not wanting to let everything work.  So go into Avast, delete all exclusions for Origin, DA;I and DA:I saves files, then put them back into exclusions thus refreshing the exclusions and then it should all work.  You can thank AVG who was bought by Avast for creating this issue.....It is sad that a AV program can't figure out that a game which is over 2 years old isn't a Virus....

The thing is, while that would work normally? I've since uninstalled Avast for AVG, and it's still giving me the problem. The fact that this shows up even after Avast ceases to exist on my computer is now bugging me. :/ But thank you for pointing out the problem. I assume I have to find these exclusions in AVG now?

lol, yup, if you have Avast or AVG you have to put exceptions(AVG) or Exclusions(Avast) in for Origin program, Dragon Age: Inquisition and the saves folder for Dragon Age: inquisition(which is usually located in the users section of your hard drive).  The problem all started with AVG and their inability to figure out that DA:I wasn't an issue, and sometime around April Avast bought out AVG and seemed to import all the issues with DA;I over into Avast.....so now Both AVG and Avast have the issues, and both are supposed to be owned by same group/company...
