Hey, I'm currently running dragon age 3 40-60 fps, benchmark even tells me 70fps. Still when I start panning the camera around I get awful stuttering. At some places it's slideshow and sometimes is runs smooth. Even when I play in windowed mode with everything on low. I find this strange since I never dip below 30 fps. Am I the only one having this problem?Help would be appreciated 🙂Gtx 860m8gb ramIntel i7 4700HQ (although I think I have the 4710 with 2.5ghz)

i played this game on my laptop for awhile to see if it would work. I7 4700MQGTX 765M8GB 1600 DDR3it works just fine on high setttings.. here is what you gotta do.. since the i7 is actually a quad core with hyperthreading this game doesnt know not to overload the cores in series. it will load up 12 34 56 78 to 100%.this cuses the i7 to throtle down to whatever base clock, in my case 2.4.you have to go into the task manager and set the affinity of this game to every other core.. so 0 2 4 6 or 1 3 5 7.this will keep the cpu from overloading to 100% and causing it to throttle down.

I am having the same problems Id like to know what's happening. The game is unplayable on anything except the lowest settings.

Check you have the latest nvidia driver installed.

In nvidia control panel under 'manage 3d settings', to make sure you're forcing your gtx860m to be used, and that 'DSR factors' is 'off', and change 'texture filtering' to 'high performance'. It might also be worthwhile checking windows advanced power saving options to make sure you're not in low power cpu/gpu mode.
If the above doesn't help I recommend downloading GPU-Z and see if there is any load on your gtx860m whilst running DA:I

I have noticed lenovo y50 also comes with an Ultra HD 4K screen. If your running DA:I at 3840x2160 that would cause the stuttering whilst panning, due to vram having to load a huge amount of textures. Recommend 1920x1080 resolution with medium-high settings.

Yeah, but unfortunately I have the version without the 4k screen :/ I used GPU-Z with these results:
GPU core clock: 1097.1 MHz
GPU Memory colck: 2505.6MHz
GPU temperature: 78 degrees c
GPU load: 97%
Memorry controller load : 33%
Video engine load: 0%
Memory usage (dedicated): 914MB
Memory usage (dynamic): 156MB
VDDC: 1.1000V
I also changed my nvidia settings like recomended. In windowed mode I get reasonable performace on low, but still some stuttering, winowed fullscreen is just a mes. Slideshow all over again, and fullscreen still hasn't been patched 😕

It looks like your gtx860m is working properly from gpu-z. It seems something is making it work harder than it needs, have you checked the scaling settings in nvidia control panel under 'Adjust desktop size and position'. Also, I read that laptop discrete gpu's still render via the igp's framebuffer, so it could be worth checking your intel gpu settings/driver.

Please check your Origin client to see if you have the Origin in game overlay turned on (it's on by default). If it is turn it off as it causes lag and stuttering as you describe. To turn off Origin in game log into Origin, in the upper left hand corner click on the word "Origin" in the menu, and then click on "Application Settings". Next go to the "Origin in game" tab and uncheck the "enable Origin in game" box.

I already knew about the origin overlay, but still, thanks for trying to help 🙂
I re-updated every driver I could think off. Since my driver is connected to my intel card I don't have a scalling setting in my nvidia control pannel. In my intel control pannel I had scaling checked. I tried to look up some info about the igp's framebuffer you mentioned but I could'nt really find something usefull, an I don't really know where to look or what to do when I check my intel gpu settings.
I must say that in windowed mode I can run everyhing reasonably smooth in medium, with some random hitches and stutters in crowded areas and random forrest areas. Still, I only can get this when running in a small window. When I go to windowed fullscreen everything is back to stutterfest. I thik this can only be fixed by bioware since most gtx860 users cant run in fullscreen or change the resolution in game. Sigh... I gues I'm gonna hope for a fix.

Hey!
Thank you so much for this answer! I tried it first in your configuration (1-3-5-7) but that just let it stutter far more. I started playing a bit with the cores to see if I could find the perfect config for me, and I did. I now get smooth frames in the more dense areas, with 40-50fps on high (and far less annoying stutters when panning the camera).
Now only the fullscreen fix form bioware and I will be completely happy :D

OP: Could you perhaps share the cores you configured? I have the same laptop but I can't get past 24FPS
