Dragon age inquisition update your amd radeon driver

I was trying to launch this game and it told me that i need to update from my driver 13.1 to 13.9 the problem is my card does not even have a 13.9 driver when I checked the AMD site. I have 2 ATI radeon HD 4800 serires instaled. is there any fix for this issue other than going out and buying a new grahpics card.

I've found a workaround. It's as simple as editing the Catalyst version number in the registry editor.

Search for and launch "regedit" (minus the quotes). navigate through this: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

In here you'll need left click on each entry and click on the folder 0000 and look for where your amd driver info is. The actual folder designations are different for different people but this screen cap will show you want it will look like when you find the right one.

Once you've found it look for the key titled Catalyst_Version. Double click on it and change the number to whatever number the prompt had been saying you need. Save the changes and then load up the game. The game fully loaded up for me, so hopefully it'll all work for the rest of you.

Thanks PiratexCore - I had the EXACT same issue - correct driver update installed but it just wasn't updating.

Nice simple solution and now I'm successfully playing the game!!

I've been pretty busy so sorry for not posting earlier. As I found out last night when I posted the workaround, in my particular case I DID infact have 13.12 installed. I was able to match each specific driver number from what I had installed with what was shown for the package. The issue was that the revision number was not being updated. From what I had found out it was an issue with the WHQL certificate or something along those lines, and this was an issue that had happened on some previous versions of Catalyst Control Center.

So for those in the situation I was, where you installed the version it wanted but it still showed a lower version of Catalyst on the CCC,  it's possible that you had the same issue as me.

For everyone else who either doesn't have access to the driver it says you should have or if you're running a higher version than it says you should have, the workaround will work until something is done about it.

Anyway though I'm glad that it's working for you guys, I hope you're all enjoying the game.

How would i use this method for nvidia drivers? thank you.

  • I checked out what is actually required to play Dragon Age Inquisition. I know the cause of my problems now. I have tricked my computer into thinking that I have a version higher than 13.12, but that doesn't mean I actually have it. I need a newer graphics card, and my current graphics card his unable to handle Inquisition. I've tried to download updates, and have gotten the blue screen of crashing numerous times. I have a laptop, and I selected "Desktop". Because I have a laptop, I should have selected "Notebook". After figuring that out, I started trying to update my driver with the "Notebook" updates, but they just weren't working. After speaking to a friend about it, I realized that perhaps I should have made sure I have the graphics card to back it up. Turns out, I don't.

I went to EA support, after speaking to that friend, and found out that I don't have the correct graphics card. Here's the link for the Dragon Age Inquisition system requirements: http://help.ea.com/en/article/dragon-age-inquisition-system-requirements/

Now is the time to decide if Dragon Age Inquisition is actually worth getting a new graphics card.

I wish you all luck, and I hoped this helped.

Piratex, YOU-ARE-A-GENIUS. I solved this issue thanks to your solution, i was really desperated, after almost 2 days to try install bootcamp on my mac, i was deciding to re-install everything for this problem or maybe change the graphic card or just give up. So.... thank you so much!!!
