[Major Bug]: Character ends up inside the intro map after character creation.

Hey,

This is a bug report more than anything else (a complaint, too, I guess).

I spent (now wasted) nearly three hours creating my Inquisitor with almost per-pixel precision to fit what I wanted for her, was super happy, give her a name and accepted...

Then the intro plays...

Then right after the intro I get a very short loading moment (the usual black screen with the loading icon at the bottom right)...

And finally it just so happens that the map that loaded was in fact the introduction's map itself, the ruins with the long stairs.

I took a picture:

I looked around the entire place just in case there was a portal or something I missed... nope, nothing. Then I checked to see if my character had been given his own character slot with an early save in it... nope, not even that. So right after the character creation is done it does not save yet, which means that every time someone is going to get that bug their character will be entirely lost. There's no actual saved game entry for that new character I created (I have another one, but that other character is the only one available to load games from).

So yeah, I lost about three hours or so of my life. If time itself could be refunded I'd ask for it.

Fix that bug, thanks.

I have a solution, if its still needed 3 years later.

After roaming around for half an hour, i stumbled upon the village the second cutscene of the game takes place in, and where you first gain control.  I'm not gonna go into a detail description of where since idk if anyone needs it, but msg me and i can tell you.  Anyways, upon walking onto thr bridge you first meet cassandra it  jumps to the second cutscene and everything is normal again.

I can't believe this bug still is an issue....just did a fresh install and can't get around it, any chance you could post a video on how to get to the bridge?

  • I believe the issue can be triggered by any irregular framerate, including a low one. Can you confirm that the game runs at 30 frames per second during the opening cutscene? You can monitor framerate by pressing the key above tab, then typing perfoverlay.drawfps 1 and pressing enter.

  • I need the solution please. My friend just got the game today. He's tried a lot of the other work arounds and nothing works. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

  • If you're running the game off of Origin. Right click the game icon in Origin game list and select repair. Let it run completely takes about 3 min. or so. This fixed the game for me. Hope it helps all of you. 3/29/19

  • Today is 05/10/20 and i've just encountered this bug (i also did encounter it first i've played the game on pirated version back in 2016 or so). The circumstances were: I played Human Female till the mid-game or so, then I decided to switch on Elf Female, both mages, both with imports from DA Keep. First, i thought it was because of the mods, but it wasn't. It bugged for me with elven female while my save files for female human were still there and i could continue playing it. I resolved this problem by trying to remove late game files (not deleting, just relocating it temporally) and then - oh miracle - it worked just fine. I think  the relocated game files later on after a save can be brought back.

For anyone who'll encounter it in the future - please use my solution. It can be a very obnoxious bug if you're creating a character for god knows how long and this happens. I will test it first from now on.

I also noticed that if you skip all the intro cutscenes right away it'll occur, BUT if you skip the first two, and then wait a little to see your character lying in the chasm of an explosion and then skip, it will not occur.

  • @D90SG Moving forward to 2021 and the issue is still present! I noticed that this happens when you spend time creating your character. If you quickly do it then it won't happen!
