Origin - Download failed

I tried to download Origins from the on the house stuff.  It seemed to work at first but I can't launch as I get a message saying it's failed because a dll is missing on my computer and I should try to install again.  It won't let me install again!  I'm a user, not a computer lover, so I just press buttons and hope.  I don't 'do' facebook or twitter - I have no social internet skills.  I just want to launch this game!

  • A Clean Boot is when you turn on your machine without all the usual processes that autoload on startup. In this case it appears that some 3rd party program is blocking the install. Rather than the laborious process of turning things off one-by-one, disabling everything using the linked steps will help in deteremining the source of the issue.

If you're not comfortable with the steps linked, it might be worth asking someone to assist.

Another option that might work is to try manually running the installer for PhysX. If you go to the install location for your existing Dragon Age files, you should be able to find PhysX-9.12.0613-SystemSoftware.msi

Double-click it to start the install process then choose to repair.

    The default location for this is : C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age\__Installer\physx\redist

@ionaisles Hey, try restarting your machine with a Clean Boot.

Once you're running in this environment, with no 3rd-party programs interfering, right-click the game panel in Origin and choose the Repair option. This should run the relevant installers again, and should hopefully fix the issue.

I don't have a repair button.  I've tried going to an agent and they can do nothing.  Last I got was a list of things to do which started with go to desktop and hold down windows key, press R.  Pressing the windows key in 8.1 just seems to change me from one desktop page to another with no Run in sight.  I actually bought this game in 2009 but my computer has been replaced since then so I've lost it now.  I am getting very, very frustrated!

I've taken a quick look at the Clean Boot thing and don't really understand it.  I'm a simple minded person who just uses a computer.  I don't actually drive a car but if I did I wouldn't have a clue how it worked!

    My error message says:

The programme can't start because PhysXLoader.dll is missing from your computer.  Try re-installing the programme to fix this problem.  I can't re-download it, it won't let me.  And I have no idea what any of this means.  I just want to get the game.

Thanks very much.  I got someone to translate what you said (sorry, I did say I was a basic users with no knowledge of anything but absolute basics. Lol) and I have managed to get it to start now.  It's a game I loved.  I thought it was the best game anyone has ever produced because of the camp fire parts where you could talk, flirt, form relationships (even hanky-panky - yeah, I'm that old!).  I don't play the fighting bits, that's for my partner and for once he couldn't play the game without me because there was so much of the talky and emotional parts that I excel in.  Best game ever.  I hope Inquisition follows suit.

Thanks for the update and sorry that the steps gave you pause earlier.

I'm very much looking forward to Inquisition myself, not long to go now.
