[PC] DA2 launching in background, black screen bug

Title explains it all. DA2 is unusable and keeps launching in the background. Occasionally it launches successfully but everything but the UI is completely black. That seems to indicate a driver problem, but dxdiag shows no issues as far as I can see.

I have no idea if these errors are related or two separate issues, but the black screen bug started after I signed into my Bioware account from another one since I believed the launch issue might have sprung from a discrepancy between the email associated with the EA app account and the Bioware account used in game. The launching started working perfectly but it was obviously unplayable due to the black screen bug. I used local saves so I don't think it's a data loss issue, but starting a new game still gives a black screen even on the class select screen. I haven't changed any settings since that error, but now it's back to only launching in background. I've done full reinstalls, restarts, cleared cache, and ran as admin, but nothing changes and there's no way to consistently get the same error. I'm completely at a loss as to what's wrong with my game.

AppHangB1 errors are indeed often driver related.

    1.  Follow this manual to the letter to clean uninstall all NVIDIA/AMD graphic driver components.
IMPORTANT: if you use a Pin to log into Windows 11 don't use DDU in safe mode!
Use it in your normal Windows session.
If you have BitLocker encryption enabled, ensure you have your Recovery Key handy before rebooting into Safe Mode. In some cases, Windows may requested it.
    2. Install the graphics driver > Go online.
    1. Test.

If that alone don't helps preform a Clean Boot:
A clean boot is a process that starts Windows with a minimal set of services and startup programs. This can help eliminate or find software conflicts.

How to perform the clean boot:

    • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type “msconfig” (Without the quotes.) > Enter.
    • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.
    • Check the box that says, “Hide all Microsoft services”.
    • Click Disable all. (Make sure the EABackgroundService remains enabled.)
    • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
    • In the Task Manager, disable all startup items that are activated.
    • Close Task Manager and go back to the System Configuration window, then click OK.
    • Restart the computer, the PC will start into clean boot mode.
    • Test the Game

      2. Additional Steps (Inside the Clean Boot Mode)
    • Ensure your virus scanner and other security software are disabled.
    • Disable Afterburner and similar software.
    • Make sure any CORSAIR/ASUS/Razer software is disabled or uninstalled.
    • Ensure your GPU and CPU are not overclocked.
    • Disconnect all peripherals except for your mouse and keyboard.

holger1405 Followed all the directions and the black screen bug was briefly fixed but was back after launching the game again. I have Reshade so I thought it might be the issue since it was initially downloaded for DX10/11/12, but upon reinstalling for DX9 get a black screen (UI is fine). Uninstalling Reshade fixed it, but I still want to be able to use it with my game.

I'm still getting the app opening in background error but much less now than before. I also get error code EC:10608 despite not having any cloud saves. It says I don't have local saves but I should, otherwise I wouldn't be able to load them ingame.

If I get you right the game works now but without Reshade? (And outside of the clean boot mode as well?)

If so you could use the NVIDIA in game filter instead of Reshade or the Reshade filter inside the NVIDIA in game filter system.
Just google "NVIDIA Reshade" and you will find guides.

For the EC:10608 error, EA app still uses cloud saves but without a user interface as Origin provided it before.
So there is a problem here too, but not necessarily a big one if you don't play on other devices and if you back up your saves separately.
DA saves are rather big files and the game was created long before someone thought about cloud saves so this might be the problem in the first place.

    Is the game saving normally?

Unfortunately, it seems like my game went  back to not being able to launch and getting the open in background bug again so I can't even check my saves. I looked into the NVIDIA Reshade but the official NVIDIA app doesn't work with my graphics card because it's so old. :(

Your  GTX 1050 Ti should be compatible to NVIDIA App (NVIDIA App supports GTX 800 to GTX 1600 cards.)

Lets vanilla the game with a completely clean installation:

    • Go here and download "Revo Uninstaller. (The freeware version, Portable version works too.)
    • Run "Revo Uninstaller" > Uninstall DA2
    • At the end of the main uninstall, Revo will ask you which cleaning method you want to use. > Select "Advance" > Browse.
    • If "Remaining registration content found" is displayed > Select All > Delete > Next
    • When "Remaining Data and Folders" is displayed > Select All > Delete.
    • Restart the PC
    • Download and install DA2.
    • Run EA app as Administrator > Click the EA app shortcut on your desktop > Run as Administrator.
    • Test.

The game is still asking you for Admin rights?
You tested without any mods or additional changed to game files?
