[PC] Dragon Age Origin Ultimate Edition will not launch

I'm trying to launch the newly purchased DA:O on Steam. The game will crash right after it launches from the configure screen.

I've tried:

-compatibility mode

-launching from the install folder directly instead of from steam

-updating my drivers

-using the PhysX legacy install

-clean booting my PC to launch

-install the LAA and 4gb patch

-the core affinity fix

-using compatibility administrator to launch config from a new database

-reinstalling/verifying the game

-reinstalling steam

I'm running on Win 10 64 bit with Nvidia GTX 1660 TI, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6 core and 16 GB ram

The only thing that worked was disabling all audio in configure per this suggestion, but that has the obvious drawback. fmodex.dll shows up sevral times in my dxdiag, attached, along with kernelbase and windowsstorage. I've exhausted the possible fixes I've found.

I can't see any Realtek Audio drivers installed on your system, despite that the Asus specs for your system list an Realtek Audio device?

Did you tried the windows sonic workaround from the linked thread?

  • I'm not sure I follow - I do see Realtek drivers in the diagnostic. My ASUS monitor has no audio so I use an external monitor. I have tried using headphones as well as external speakers, all with the windows sonic workaround. The game only loads with audio off in configure. However, trying the windows sonic workaround never resolves the audio issue per the other thread. In Device Manager, I already have the latest drivers for realtek.

Sorry for the late reply, I was out with the flu all week.

There is a "Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller" and a "Realtek 8822CE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC", PCIe WLAN and Network driver, but there is no Realtek Audio device driver and no Realtek Audio listed under "Sound Devices".
