Well, I've never experienced the problem you're having, so apologies for misunderstanding, I thought the in-game audio options for speaker set up were intended to change the sort of speaker set up the game uses.
Unfortunately, if you're looking for a response from Bioware, they can't be found here (as these are EA boards. EA can't really be found here either, as these boards are peer to peer technical help, not official support). There are also no more patches intended for the game, so it's unlikely the features you're requesting will be added (unless the modding community finds a fix, though given how difficult this game is to mod, that doesn't seem too likely).
Hopefully someone here has found a workaround for PC that will work for you.
yeah the DRC option basically adjusts the level of difference between loud and quiet sounds. Lowering the difference makes everything sound similar in volume which is great if you are playing on something like a TV with the volume turned down as the quiet bits of audio will be nearly as loud as the loud bits. Increasing the difference improves the dynamics of the audio/makes stuff sound more correct in how loud it should be relative to your position, this is good if you're wearing headphones or intend to play the game loudly with decent audio equipment etc.
Currently I'm going to try setting Windows to Surround Sound mode and then tell it I only have Front Left and Front Right speakers in my set up, forcing Windows to downmix the surround audio to stereo. Dunno if it will work yet but here goes!
