PS3 - Forbidden Oasis Terrible Framerate

Both my husband and I have had framerate slow down to an unplayable crawl in the Forbidden Oasis. By "unplayable crawl" I mean that when I tried to climb a ladder, there was time for me to make a sandwich between the bottom of the ladder and the top. A good sandwich.

Maybe a frame every three seconds.

This happened in two different areas of the oasis on two different games, and persisted throughout the oasis after fast travel to a camp. The problem was still there after restarting the game AND a system reboot.

As it is, we simply can't do any of the quests there.

Thanks for your attention

Lydia

I have this problem only in that location. Also it only happens when I hit certain areas. Every time it happens, I have to get the start menu to pop up. But the lag doesnt affect the menu at all. I usually reload to the last save and avoid that location completely. I just hope that they come out with a patch very soon. It makes playing the game very aggravating.
  • Wow even the Ps3 is seeing FPS drop? A lot of us on PC are having problems.

My inkling is that the DA engine is not optimized. I.e. any system that isn't like the PS4/XOne/state of the art PC won't be able to run the game seemlessly.

I had to load an earlier save from outside the Oasis. There went some nice hours of play. The framerate dropped during Rift fights; first it happened in the tunnels and then it happened on the southeastern (I think) plateau (forgot the location names). I haven't tested my theory, nor can I any longer, but it seemed like it didn't happen when I did one fight, left, and then returned. To be sure, I've been anxiously saving since then, yaknow, just in case.

Side note: got to closely examine some of the animations. Assessment: niiiiiicee.

I'm just about to finish the game, mostly complete except this buggy level. Please fix it soon instead of releasing more DLC, last thing you need is more people paying extra for a highly defective game.

The PC doesn't have to be state-of-the-art. I played the game on a system with a mid-range graphics card (Radeon R9 270X) and an outdated processor (Phenom II x4 965BE) and it ran fine on high settings. By fine I mean framerates were usually closer to 60 than 30 at 1920x1080, and after over a hundred hours of playtime, I only had two crashes.

The problem with the PC version at the moment is that there are issues on Nvidia cards and in the DirectX API. The game runs much more stable on a system with AMD and Mantle. The current-gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) both happen to have AMD graphics as well, so that may be a factor here.

From my experiences, Frostbite 3 is a very smooth engine considering the quality output. But as I said, I have a Mantle compatible GPU.

  • I was playing on the PS3 as well and there were no problems anywhere in the Forbidden Oasis UNTIL I hit open on the Temple of Pride, after which I experienced this frame rate drop as well, however the menus and audio were all fine.  I fast traveled to Haven when this happened, then fast traveled back into the Oasis, and it was playable again.  A little inconvenient, but it's a temporary fix.

Does anyone have an actual fix for this problem?

I have completed all other areas, but everytime I go to FO everything slows to such a crawl it's totally unplayable.

    Help!!
