Unfortunately this is not helpful. All I can say is a basic keyboard and mouse should not have problems. You need a more in depth description of the problem. The choppiness you describe, is it in custscenes too? Completely unrelated to the controls? Do you pause mid way through running into a new area (like the bar in haven/skyhold)?
General choppiness is usually your graphics slowing down to 5-10 frames per second (FPS). This could be the graphics settings are too much for you video card, or you need to update your drivers, etc
You need to post more information, and preferrably include a dxdiag uploaded to pastebin and linked here.

My graphics are all auto selected in game - ATI Radeon HD 5650 and processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760@2.80 GHz...again hope this helps!
The HD 5650 is below the system requirements. Is your issue just choppy controls, or a bad framerate in general?
Are you sure it's not an HD 5670? Those are more common in desktops. That's also the most common result when I googled the PC. (Still below the system requirements, though.)
