Re: dragon age 2 sound is fine but dialogue very soft

Set your Audio to "Force Stereo" and see if that fixes the issue.

Sometimes the surround-sound options are a little too life-like.  If the camera isn't facing the right way, the voices fade out almost completely.

    tx T.............

well, it worked for DA2 just fine but ME3 has not responded and now i've discovered that my ME2 and Fallout 3 ( ME 1 is o.k. -- go figure? ) have the same  problem. Do you have any further insights T man? much appreciated...............because these other games ( except ME 3 ) don't have the force voice options so a deeper excursion into the files seems to be the only way, maybe?  Do you think a re-install would rectify this fault in these other games ( if you are familiar with them ) ?

  • Check your Sounds settings in Windows.

I'll bet that you got the nVidia sound driver installed along with the latest graphics card one. They seem to think everybody wants that automatically. I've had to remove it after applying every video driver update.

i've got an ATI R9 290X.......would they still have slipped in some nvidia stuff?  checked my sound settings, got realtek speakers etc, everything seems set correctly --  maybe re-install is the only way>

  • Naaah.  AMD wouldn't use nVidia stuff.  So that's not it.

But that doesn't mean that the underlying problem isn't the sound driver and/or settings.

Can you force Windows to use the "2/2.1" speaker set-up and see if the problem goes away?

how would i do that T?   my realtek HD audio manager is tweaked as it should be ( 4 speakers, woofer, sub-woofer )......i don't get far when i search windows for 2/2.1 speaker set-up!

  • You can change that, forcing your rig to use 2/2.1 speaker set-up, by using either the Windows Control Panel, or the RealTek HD Audio Manager:

    Windows Speaker Selection

And you can set it back to your normal configuration when you're not playing one of the games that are behaving this way.

    Good Luck!

tx again T............ i was thrown because there was no 2/2.1 or 4etc listed on my Realtek manager config. Sound manager has been set to stereo and so far F3 and ME3 have regained dialogue;  but still i'm disappointed because 2 weeks ago, before i took this pc in for a great g-card and a check-up ( for Hundreds of dollars ), all these games' audio was fine and NOW i'm stuck with stereo!  go figure?????  is there a deeper issue that needs professional attention do you think? ( i had a steam malfunction and some goddamn spyware/adware removed etc.)

any way...it's got dialogue back and for that i'm thankful....bless you T

  • When I updated my rig to Win8.1 I had to roll-back my sound card driver to a previous version beacuse it kept trying to say I had a 7.1 speaker set-up, and I don't.  Re-installing the previous RealTek driver did the trick for me.
