   You may have a truly over specked machine, hard to say, you mention dust which takes time to accumulate, but any way. many games I play My system is so Over spec, that If I do not set the V-sync, My system will burn its self up, with frame rates over 600, the Vid card beats its self to death. Causing a Major Over heat.  I have seen some Older games go for FPS up in the Thousand's of FPS. 

   I mean I doubt that is your problem, but I am only mentioning it. Because it is a Problem that I have had in some games, and for me normally older games, but I have seen it.

     Diablo three was one that would cause my system to shut down, from Over heat, I mean it is like a really lamb game graphics wise, and MY system without the V-sync locked at 60 or 59 FPS, would freak, and shut down.  However once I set the V-Sync, all was good, and system stayed cool as an Ice pack.
