Re: Graphics and Stalling

I would, but I handed it off to my dad and he guided me through fixing it, so I do not quite remember what I did.  o_O

Though, there are nicer ways to ask.  Sorry you're feeling "teased", that was not my intention.  But try not to take things so personally, it's just the internet.

  • Not taking it personally.  I don't have this problem on my rig (Win8 Pro/64-bit, Core2Quad, 8GB, GT640.)

But, (as my "Solutions" stat indicates) I help lots of people who do  have problems.

The more people make their fixes public, the fewer frustrated players there will be. 😕mileywink:

(EDIT: And, since DA2 is Rated "M", and you would never publically post about playing it if you weren't of the appropriate age to do so, I'm sure that you're old enough to understand your father's explanation if you were to ask him how he was able to resolve this. 😕mileytongue: )

Of course I am of proper age, being a third year student in college.  In any case, I went back to live on campus, but I will call my dad and ask him what he did.  Also, just because a game is rated "M", does not mean it is illegal for a minor to play a game.  I see what you're saying though and I do agree with the whole solutions thing so there is not frustration.  But again, I just remember my dad pulling up something on my computer with stuff on it I do not understand.  Looked like computer language, and I only know HTML and binary.  I just go to my dad with problems usually since he is a software developer.  I originally made this thread because I was not at my father's.

EDIT: Called my father and apparently he was checking things on my computer that had nothing to do with the game.  I do not get him sometimes.  In any case, my dad said that the first step is to check video settings and to change the DX.  Example, if it is set on DX11, change it to DX9.  Then close out on the game and open the game up again.  Now this is something I tried before my dad and it did not work, and the way my dad got it to work was to have me restart the computer.  So if switching the DX settings does not work once closing out on the game, then restart computer and try again.  My DX is on DX9 now.  Funny, seeing as my computer has a DX11 drive.  In any case, solution seems so simple now, but there it is.

  • Ahhhh... The old "OS and application think they can handle DX11, but video card can only handle DX9" problem.

Actually, I had a DX10.1  card. Imagine my frustration since the game thought I could use the advanced capabilities on my Win8 rig, but my hardware wasn't, in fact, capable. 😕mileyfrustrated:

In fact, BioWare created a whole new patch for DAO (1.05, I was part of the beta test team) just for people in my situation.

Having upgraded my video adapter since then, that's no longer the case.  But I understand the situation. 😕mileywink:

[EDIT:  I really hate the conversion of ": O" into an emoticon.  Looks really stupid when all you meant to do was cite "Dragon Age: Origins".]
