I ended up fixing this problem by 1) disabling my Avast! antivirus, 2) changing the game to compatibility mode, which for me was Windows 7, 3) repairing the game through Origin, and 4) restarting my computer. Oh, also be sure to run it in windowed mode. I hope this helps someone!
