You can click on the game in Origin and choose check for update.

You can check version by going to control panel, programs, and and remove and find DAI, it will list version there, current is 1.0.0.6 iirc.

Origin will keep all games up to date unless you have specifically gone into options and turned it off.  Generally speaking, if Origin is online and you can play DAI, then it is up to date.  Usually if it needs an update, and you haven't yet done it, and try to play while Origin is online, it will say an update is needed.  You can not do the update and play offline if you decide to NOT update.
