I added a PS3 tag to your title. I don't know anything about PS3, but maybe someone more knowledgable will find this thread.

Is the game installed to the hard drive? If not, you should try that. If it's already installed, try reinstalling.

My second guess would be hardware failure, but it would surprise me somewhat that this would affect only the characters' faces.
