Re: [PS4] Unable to load into Dragon Age Inquisition

@darkpere With consoles, there wont be an updated version like a PS5 version because of the age of the game. There is a Game of The Year Edition though that has all the DLC. So the only way it would cause a conflict is if you only owned the base game, and have the GOTY edition installed.

As for the saves though, the issue there could be a couple of things. Regardless of the version, your save would say either you can or cant access based on content you own. Do if you don't own a certain DLC you cannot load the game.

However, if the save files were on an old console, and you don't have that console, those saves are gone. If they were uploaded to the PS online management (PS cloud), all you would need do is download that data from there. I recently went from PS4 to PS5, installed the game, and all saves were there due to the online storage management being active.

The last issue would be if you were simply on an entirely different account. Then you couldn't access them at all no. So if you know you are playing on the same account, I would check the online saves, and see if you can download them.

As for the different versions of the game, I would uninstall the game, go to your library, and install the one it says you own. Some have a lock, or a disc, or a PS I believe for their monthly game if you got it during the Monthly game give away they have.

I bought the GOTY Edition because it is the only one for sale on Psstore. The base game I played, almost 10 years ago, was only the base game. They hadn't released the DLC yet. I seem to remember it was monthly game by subscription, but I'm not sure. If I go to my library and look for it, it has a lock on it.

Moreover, when you download the GOTY edition, it asks you to select which version you want, and one of the two has a lock (I understand it's the same as the original), but if you enter the info it directs you to the GOTY. That's why my doubt with the versions, because it's as if they were different...being the same game. Same name, same image, same info, but the “Release date” changes.

Even when you enter the game and it creates the new save data, the name and image are exactly the same as the saves I have.

The Playstation account is the same one I have used all my life.

I have the savegames on both consoles and in the cloud.

I have made screenshots where you can see that it is as if there were two versions being the same game. You can see in the details, the download size and release date, and the hours played.

sorry, my ps5 is in spanish. Ig you need, i can repeat with english text.

  • @EA_Shepard I add three more screenshots, it didn't let me do it in the previous post.

    @darkpere

Thank you for all the screenshots; what this comes down to are a few factors. I tested it and what I found out on mine, and from FAQs, etc, is the following:

    Why Are There Two Entries?

    1. Base Game and Special Edition/DLC Bundle:
      • One version could be the standard game, while the other might be a special edition (e.g., Game of the Year Edition) or a version bundled with DLCs.
    2. Different Platform Versions:
      • If you previously owned the PS4 version, both the PS4 and PS5 versions might appear in your library.
    3. Ownership vs. Access:
      • One version might be from a physical disc or a purchase, while the other could be from a subscription service like PlayStation Plus or EA Play.

What Does the Lock Icon Mean?

The lock icon indicates that you do not currently have access to that version of the game. This could be due to:

    1. Subscription Expired:
      • If you played the game through a subscription service like PlayStation Plus or EA Play, the lock will appear if your subscription has expired.
    2. Different Account Ownership:
      • If the game was purchased or redeemed by another account on the console, and you no longer have access to that account, the locked version will appear.
    3. Digital License Issue:
      • You may not own the digital license for the locked version (e.g., you own the PS4 version but not the PS5 upgrade).

    How to Resolve It

    1. Check Ownership:
      • Go to the locked version in your library and select it. You should see an option to "View in Store" to check its purchase status.
      • If it says "Purchase," you don't own that version.
    2. Verify Subscriptions:
      • Check if your PlayStation Plus or EA Play subscription is active. Renewing the subscription should unlock access if the game was obtained through these services.
    3. Check Linked Accounts:
      • If the game was purchased by another account, ensure that the primary account on the PS5 is set correctly.
    4. Install the Accessible Version:
      • If one version is installable, that’s the version you own. Focus on using that one.
    5. Contact PlayStation Support:
      • If you’re unsure about the ownership status or believe there’s an error, reach out to PlayStation Support.

@EA_Shepard I will answer in red:

    How to Resolve It

    1. Check Ownership:
      • Go to the locked version in your library and select it. You should see an option to "View in Store" to check its purchase status.
      • If it says "Purchase," you don't own that version. I't says "play", because seems the same game. You can see in the screenshots.
    2. Verify Subscriptions:
      • Check if your PlayStation Plus or EA Play subscription is active. Renewing the subscription should unlock access if the game was obtained through these services. Check at the beggining.
    3. Check Linked Accounts:
      • If the game was purchased by another account, ensure that the primary account on the PS5 is set correctly. No, i'm only one account of PS, the same as always.
    4. Install the Accessible Version:
      • If one version is installable, that’s the version you own. Focus on using that one. I don't understand, it's only a one valid version. You can see in screenshots
    5. Contact PlayStation Support:
      • If you’re unsure about the ownership status or believe there’s an error, reach out to PlayStation Support. It's impossible. when I contact playstation, they only give the option to have “expert players” answer and every time I have to explain everything again, they keep sending me the same answer templates and no one takes me seriously.

@darkpere Thank you! I love direct answers like that. Just to clarify with you, when you go to your library and the PS store, do they both show the same? One is installable, one is locked?

To circle back to that part, that is one of the following

    Subscription download
    Disc install version
    PS Monthly game version
Another user logged into the console.

I am loading up my PS5 to test it, but I will ask as well and see what's up.

Do you currently have PS Plus active on that PSN ID?

@EA_Shepard Thanks for all the replies and for the promptness.

I am currently subscribed to PS Plus, yes.

One is installable (GOTY) and the other has locked. But the locket go to the GOTY.

When I played, it was digital, I think it was game of the month with the subscription, can't quite remember.

@darkpere Gotcha, so if it was one of the monthly games and you have PS Plus you should be able to access it so it would be considered two different versions on the console. Its an entitlement issue not a game issue. If the save file has data from a different version of the game, it wont work unless you have that version. That, I am afraid, is on the console side, not the game side.

I am a PC player, so pardon if what I ask isn't possible on consoles....but can you just copy the save files to either a backup drive and then transfer them to the proper location for the new game, or do a direct copy from one folder to the other on the drive??  I know on PCs it could be done easily.....

@EA_Shepard So I take it from your words that, by playing a version that does not exist at the time, I will never be able to load my saved games? I don't understand it from the point of view of the players...

    @mcsupersport

Yes, on PC it would have been solved days ago. You change the version of the file by hand and that's it. On consoles this kind of things are impossible.

The basic problem is that the savegames are already where they should be, both in the console storage and in the cloud.

So technically, yes, you can do that on a console as well as a PC. The main issue here is two-fold

Does the save file have data on it from a different "version" of the game?
Is the downloaded version the same version as the locked version?

You can download and save files on the console to a thumb drive and get them off the console. However, being that there are two versions on the console, the save file has data on it that the downloaded version doesn't have. This could be anything from DLC, gear, special items, GOTY data, etc.

That isn't info we can see. A locked version on the console only applies to a few reasons - Disc - game version - Monthly game - EA Play sub (this gives the best version)

If you want to access the save that you cannot,  you have to own or download that same locked version. That becomes an entitlement issue with the console and the PSN ID not the game or the save itself.
