If you are using Origin(but PS and Xbox also have a form of this), you left click on the game to open game page and then the cog wheel next to play button(or right click on the game in your library) and it should bring up the option menu Repair is about half way down that menu, between update game and game properties. What this does is have Origin look at the files, compare a internal checksum number to make sure everything is correct and there. Depending on the size of the game, and speed of your internet it can take a few minutes to half an hour. If it finds an issue, it will redownload the files that are messed up and fix it. If something corrupts your files, mods deletes or changes them, then this option will often fix the install and take it back to the way it should be. It will also usually update the game if one is available and not previously installed. This is a good first step when you are having issues with things not working correctly in a game.
