The Dragon Age II Problem That Just Won't Die
Yes I am talking about enabling the Console not in Origins, not in Inquisition-- in Dragon Age II. After playing for thirty hours and not having a critical set item spawn properly in the Legacy DLC I figured I would add two lines of code to enable the counsol, add the missing item, then disable to console. This is a 10 minute job in most games. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered that in my 33 years of video gaming no console is _harder_ to enable than that in Dragon Age II. After spending hours of research and trial and error I cannot get the console to enable.
My System:
Alienware X86 Laptop
Windows 7
Fully Compatible with Dragon Age II
My Install:
Digital download from Amazon.com
Patch Version 1.04
DLC: Black Emporium, Mark of the Assasin, Legacy
My Shortcut (yes this is the correct path):
"C:\Games\Dragon Age II\Dragon Age 2 (Download)\autorun.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole
My Dragonage2Launcher Mods:
NONE. -- There is no Dragonage2launcher in my install/version. There is only one XML file in the entire install and it is simply "autorun" in the data folder. adding arguments to this on the autoquit line with either notpad or dreamweaver has no effect.
My Key Bindings.ini Mods:
OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Grave
OpenConsole_1=(UNASSIGNED)
Yes this is the default setting. As I read this code it means that there is already a default console button and it is bound to the Grave. Now, depending on who you believe on the internet, the Grave key is either ` or ~ or ^ It doesnt matter I tried every one one of these and none of them work. In fact I spent over two hours of trial and error testing every combination of setting 0's to 1's and changing the activation keys out to F12 or Z or z etc. It was irrelevant in the end-- none of this makes any difference.
My Test Process:
1) Executed modified Dragon Age II shortcut on desktop
2) Seleected PLAY from the launcher
3) Selected Resume Game. (I did my testing in my mansion in HighTown)
4) Executed designated console key 1-2 times
5) Hit I for inventory and C for charcater to see if these commands failed due to console mode active. The commands ALWAYS executed as normal indicating the game was in play, not console, state.
If there is a true Jedi Codemaster here I would be grateful for your guidance.
