It might be one of those abilities. I haven't tried getting rid of them yet. I didn't have any problems until Dirth-something-or-other which could mean it is an ability - Probably a warrior one because I just level up cassandra and blackwall, I can't remember what I gave them though.
I have no mods installed and it keeps crashing in every battle.
Lowering graphics, and fiddling with some of the suggested settings in other posts about DA:I crashes (windowed mode etc.) got me to the next battle, but it crashed again.
I seem to have the most trouble with those stealth Qunari maybe? Going to try getting rid of Lunge and Slash.. and hope that's the problem.
This annoying. DAI:I and my computer were working so well together. I've only had Cutscene crashes which were fixed by upgrading my then outdated drivers.
Please let us know how you get on after disabling Lunge and Slash. if you use Blackwall please also stay away from Line In the Sand, it's reportedly causing issues too.

In the deep roads, past the first encounter with the Qunari and past the excavation site, after your hand starts glowing and you head around the corner and down some stairs there is a "Listen to Varric" prompt (if you're playing with him) - down the stairs on the left / right are some little glowy-eyed *s that, if I don't go near the stairs and just attack them from where I am, the fight plays out ok. If I go near the top of the stairs, bam, Crash to Desktop no error.
I tried disabling Lunge and Slash on Cassandra or changing to the damage bonus ability update, no difference. If I stand back from the top of the stairs and defeat those little *s, then head down the stairs, bam - crash to desktop, no error.
So for me it appears to be linked not to any abilities or to any in-battle mechanics, but actually just trying to reach the next part of the level after arriving. Highly repeatable, so now I'm stuck waiting for a fix before I can keep playing.
This is really depressing - 192 hours with no crashes and all the DLC, only to be constantly shut down trying to play this and get the last bit of the plot.

For me it was lunge and slash. after I disabled it I got 2 hours of fluid gameplay.
By the way, this Thread was not easy to find, and there seem to be a lot of people having this or a very similar problem.
