Unable to launch Dragon Age Inquisition saved game

I just tried to play Dragon Age Inquisition for the first time in about 3 years and I got a notification that said I could not launch my saved file because it was created on an older patch and to update to the current patch before playing. I have no mods installed and have installed all of the DLCs in my library. What should I do?

Thank you!!

    @princesspyrrha That error typically indicates your Windows profile does not have Admin permissions to make specific changes. If you take half that error (minus the DA part) and do a quick Google search, you will find a lot of steps on how to solve that error.

    It generally comes out to an permissions issue with folders or the game.

    @princesspyrrha Hey there!

    Just following up to see how things are going. Are you still running into any issues?

    If so, which platform are you playing on?
    Can you take a screenshot of the error you get for me?

    Thanks!

    You change the patch number by opening the "package.mft" from under "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch\" (Or wherever you installed the game.) with a text editor and changing the Version from 11 to at least 13.

    Don't forget to save after you changed the "package.mft".

  • Hello! Still having the issue! I will attach a photo below. Thank you!

  • Hello! I tried doing this and it said I did not have permission to save it to the same folder, does it matter where I save it to? Thank you

    @princesspyrrha

    Is the Windows account you are using a Administrator account?

    If yes:

    Press the Windows key and "X" at the same time > Click on "Command prompt (Administrator)", "PowerShell (Administrator)" or Terminal (Administrator).
    (OS specific differences.)

    • In the CMD, PowerShell or Terminal window, at the prompt type or copy and past:
      takeown /f "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch\" /r
      (With the quotes)
      (
      Should your game be installed at a different location, replace "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch\" with the full path to the Patch folder. (The quotation marks need to stay in!)

    • hit ENTER
      You should get a success message.

    • Restart the PC > Test
  • You were spot on!!! I had to fiddle with permissions and that fixed it. Thank you both of you!!!!
