Unable to take screenshots

As a workaround, you can use third party program Fraps to take screenshots.

I'm not entirely sure what caused it, but this happened to me when I ran DAI in admin mode for use with the DAI Cinematic Tools, and also dramatically increased the resolution with the Windowed Borderless Gaming app. I spammed the screenshot button, but they did not appear in the screenshot folder.

BUT I finally did find them in the main DAI installation folder, at

C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition

You might want to check there. If they're not there, I can't offer any other suggestions.

I just discovered this same issue -- I had not played DAI since September 2015, and fired it up again today (5/2/16). I'm running Windows 7 like OP. Origins installed a patch (I assume the one from October 2015, which according to the patch notes should not have affected screenshots) before I began playing. 

Now when I click the printscreen button, nothing happens. Not a black image, just nothing showing up at all. I do not believe the images are being taken, because previously there was always a small hitch in the frame rate when a screenshot was taken. Other than that, I never had any issues taking screenshots before today.

To troubleshoot I have: 

* rebooted the machine

* verified that I am running in borderless windowed mode

* switched to regular windowed mode and back (no difference)

* verified that the resolution of the game matched the resolution of my monitor

* verified that the printscreen button on my machine works (by using alt+tab to paste the results into Paint)

* searched for the files (in case they ended up elsewhere) on the entire machine ("ScreenshotWin32_*_Final")

No luck. Any suggestions?

Always have had to take one, paste it as a new image into my editor. (use print screen to take) get one of a scene before the one I wanted, then take a second and, it's the right one. Just hit pause (ctrl key by default) take one, paste it to your editor, then go take a second to get the shot you want.

Update: a few days later, the screenshot key mysteriously started working again. I didn't do anything different -- I did reboot both computer and DAI/Origin, but I did that before without any luck. 

So problem solved, but the why is still a mystery. 

@gingergen Thanks for coming back. If you encounter the problem again, can you see if pressing Alt & PrtScn works instead?

I have seen intermittent screenshot issues on some games(not just DAI), but I haven't been able to lock down an exact cause all of the time.

Rather than start a new topic, I'm resurrecting this one. Since the Origin update, I've not been able to take a screenshot in DAI. I've tried the suggestions here including alt-print screen with no luck. Please help!

Can I ask why you guys aren't just using your graphics card for screenshots?

Nvidia and AMD both do a great job at it.

August 2021 and I still have this issue on DA:O or at least half of it. I wasn't able to take any screenshot nor was the game taking any story / achievement screenshot despite the fact that I had these turned on in the settings. I was able to fix the first part of the problem by rebinding the screenshot key to another key (in my case, the default key was print screen and I changed it to F12).
So far I've been unable to get the game to take automatic story and achievements screenshots consistently, even though I always get the "New Screenshot" notification when it's supposed to take one, no idea why. I say consistently because the weird thing is that sometimes the automatic story/achievement screenshot-taking feature works. I.e. let's stay I start several new careers with the human noble background, 8 times out of ten no story screenshot would be taken during the first conversation between my character, my father, Duncan and Howe but occasionally the "In charge of the castle" story screenshot which should always be taken during this conversation is taken (hence the "consistently" part). I do have some mods, but I reinstalled the game without any of them and the problem was still there.

I have windows 10 Family, Geforce GTX 980 and up-to-date drivers.

It's not game-breaking or anything but I like this feature, I like the flavor text that comes with these story screenshots, plus sometimes I may not know/remember that I've when completed an achievement or reached a story milestone it so it's nice having the game immortalize the moment automatically for me.
