[Xbox] Game stuck during manual saving on 'Verifying Free Space Data'

Since I’ve ran into this bug countless times in the past 2 weeks, I’ve had to search some forums to see if there’s a fix.

Then I see EA officials replying to threads closing the topic instead of acknowledging the issue, even suggesting to create a new post instead.

So here I am! 10 years after release and this is still an issue!! Pretty bothered about the fact no one with the capability to fix this bug has any interest in fixing it.

I’m already here so there’s a few more too;

-had to restart my game ??? times (I lost count) because Mihris wasn’t outside that cave in the hinterlands, therefore couldn’t help her clear the cave and get the amulet reward. Then when she DID show up the elven artefact was mysteriously gone. Couldn’t complete them either. It took half an hour of reloading to have both Mihris and the artefact in the game.
-game saying I need ‘deft tools’ to unlock doors, despite my inquisitor being a rogue and already unlocking that perk.

-enemies spawning on top of me endlessly while I’m already in combat. Particularly the hyenas in the western approach and the bears in the hinterlands. Wave after wave of cave bears is ridiculous.

-the reason for the post: going to manually save the game and getting the little box pop up ‘verifying available free space’ with the spinning circle indefinitely. I left it for 20 minutes while I ate dinner and nothing happened so had to reset the game and continue from an auto save.

For a 10 year old game that’s well known and acclaimed, it’s insane how many bugs remain. I’ve only picked a few that have been the worst but I’ve encountered loads. Makes me slightly fearful for Veilguard because newer games have more bugs at launch (understandable) and they may just be ignored like they were for Inquisition. Hopefully someone at EA will read this and take these concerns seriously. I’m late to the DA hype but I love the lore, I just wish the game wasn’t so bugged as it breaks my immersion entirely.

    Hey, @porosian

I wanted to follow up on this thread to see if you're still experiencing issues with the game. If you need any further assistance, please let us know!

    Cheers!

    Hello @EA_Shepard

Thank you for your reply to the post.

Yes I can confirm that this is still an issue. I don’t exactly expect all of the bugs I mentioned to be fixed, however I would like to open a dialogue to get reassurance about the next dragon age game due to release in the fall.

Since I’ve come across so many bugs, I’ve searched the forums (and Reddit) for help quite regularly. To my surprise, I see plenty of posts here describing the same issues I’ve faced where EA staff disregard concerns and close the post from future comments. It would be crucial to know if Veilguard will get better treatment than Inquisition, as it’s quite concerning to see the people who can fix these issues simply ignore them. Will we have the same experience with bugs as we have in the past? Will staff brush off our worries about the game nearing unplayable territory with the amount of bugs? Or will we be listened to and taken seriously?

I personally have had to use a second Xbox console to avoid game breaking bugs (quest givers not present but are marked on the map or you simply can’t talk to them, or the verifying free space data bug) or quality of life bugs (like the search function not showing the items found on the mini map) and that’s not something every player can do. I am fortunate that my parents are gamers too and we have other consoles in the house; that’s actually how I noticed quite how many bugs are present in this game.

The industry has changed a lot in the past 10-15 years, I recognise this sincerely. However, I believe EA will have to be hotter on fixing these bugs in Veilguard because people nowadays will just abandon the game and leave bad reviews online and through word of mouth (see how Starfield and Cyberpunk suffered from this). Any reported bugs that are still present 6 months to a year after release will shatter reputation, especially if they get the same treatment as Inquisition. I beg that the same mistakes are not made, because I and many others are so excited for the next release. This will be an opportunity to show the community that EA and BioWare cares about player experience and hears their concerns, and will even fix what’s needed. Do you believe this is possible?

  • I'd recommend holding your finger on the Xbox power button on the console until the light goes out. Then try starting again.

It sounds like the system is just doing a soft reset, so it's not really restarting the game. https://vlc.onl/

@porosian Hey following up on this one. You make good points, and thankfully I can test it out on more than one system as well. If it happens on one and not the other, typically that's corrupted data which can save on the console still rather than the game. If it was the game specifically, it would happen on more than one.
