Leave your prejudice in the Fade. The Veil has torn

The negative judgment is clearly driven by a shared stance rooted in discomfort towards non-binary people. Most of the reviews are misleading and written by people who haven’t actually played this game—maybe just the first five minutes. I read that someone called it "Disney-like," but perhaps that player hasn’t seen the Hoosberg Swamps, post-devastation Minrathous, or even the Necropolis. As for the “shallow dialogue”? Maybe there’s some functional illiteracy going around. The characters are incredibly well-developed and deep; they all interact with each other, creating unique dynamics. The game and gameplay are smooth and well-animated. To be understood and appreciated, a game needs to be played in its entirety—including all the side missions, which add depth, emotion, story, and bring all the pieces together. I finished it in tears. I’ve played every title, and since I romanced Solas in Inquisition, what happens—thanks to completing the side quests and the Crossroads—between him and the Inquisitor at the end of Veilguard moved me deeply. The voice acting is masterful; the emotions and intentions are truly immersive. The maps are highly detailed, and you can create a variety of playstyles. For me, it’s a 9/10 game. Those who complain about the lack of open world clearly haven’t explored the maps, which are vast and easy to get lost in. That said, there are things that could’ve been done better, like how some of the returning characters were handled. A few left a bitter taste in my mouth because of how differently they were designed. I would have liked to see crafting return, but the upgrade mechanics are still solid. I also would’ve liked to rely more on character tactics. All in all: PLAY IT, and then we’ll talk. Immerse yourself in the story, don’t go in with prejudice because of a community that’s taken a stance against the character Taash and their identity. I want to emphasize that their story is incredibly deep—a journey of self-discovery, seeking maternal approval, and ultimately feeling truly themselves.I don’t know if those who created and brought this game to life (with such emotion) will ever read this post... But know this: Your work was not in vain. The result is outstanding. Be proud of Veilguard and of yourselves. Thank you.

  • Critical reception for this game was mostly positive. One of the few prominent review channels that was really negative was SkillUp, and I noticed that a lot of Reddit users were just repeating the talking points of the SkillUp review verbatim without adding a personal critique, which made me suspect, as you already indicated, that they hadn't actually played the game themselves.

I saw one user on Reddit criticise a certain character story because he felt it shouldn't end on a happy note. His description of that storyline was the opposite of what really happened. He then admitted he hadn't actually played it, because "why would I play a bad game", and that he was basing his opinion on what he "was led to believe".

I think this may just be because of a culture shift due to live streaming where people now experience gaming the same way they experience sports: As a viewer instead of an active participant.

I definitely think there are valid criticism of this game. I think it's regrettable that with each new entry this series has moved further away from Dragon Age: Origins (in my opinion the best one). Overall I really liked it, but I would have preferred a return to tactical combat instead of the same dodge - parry - light attack - heavy attack mechanics that seem to be in every other AAA action game nowadays. I also missed the crafting system from Inquisition, and I thought randomised loot was very unsatisfying. For me, the highlights of the game were Bellara's personal storyline as well as everything to do with Solas.
