Ban from Steam forums

Hi,

I was permanently banned from Steam forums on DA : V.

The post linked a video from Dantics, depicting Commander Shepard playing Veilguard with his crew from the trilogy commenting and disturbing him.

The video is a humoristic one, with some genuine critic of the game. (And it's a Bioware character, if not the most famous, for people waiting for the next Mass Effect like me, it helps and makes waiting easier)

My post was appreciated by people, letting me know they could at least have a laugh in an ocean of controversy and trolls posting about DA : V sales or spam clone topics about DEI.

The mail I received didn't explain the reason for the ban, or pointed to any part of the ToS.

Could you tell me the reason of this ban, so I can appeal the decision if I feel it wasn't a fair one ? On a side note, I really think this kind of drastic decision should always be explained.

Thank you.

@531cbd0ffa4f96f6 If this is a studio ban, players would file an appeal with our Terms of Service team because it was done through the developer of the game. Steam can only ban players from the Steam forums, or their Steam account. The game is different.

If the ban was related to Steam directly, and not the game or Answers HQ, you would have file that appeal through Steam Support

As you stated, they let you know it was a studio ban, you would file an appeal through the first link above if you have not. These forums play no part in bans on an account in any way.

  • Hi,

I did it already, they send me a link to EA assistance. Since I had no answer after a week, I opened a Chat with EA assistance, who sent me a link to here.

194913087 is the number of the file (assistance request ?).

For now, I'm left with no way to know why I was banned, and no efficent way to appeal if needed.

  • They told me this ban was decided by the moderation team of the studio of the game :

"Ce bannissement du hub de la communauté a été décidé par l'équipe de modération du studio de développement." (in french)

Then they linked a EA/Dragon Age assistance link to follow to get help.

My best guess is people from EA/Bioware have moderator status on thses forums.

Still I find incredible to have a blank under the reason for a PERMANENT ban, that and the fact that I really find it absolutely unfair.

  • Thank you for your reply, EA chat person asked me to post here.

Since it's not going to help, case is closed here.

For future reference, when someone is banned on a specific game discussion forum only, the ban is always from the developer's / publisher's moderator and never from Steam.

The only recourse is to complain to the developer / publisher.

I don't know what they posted so don't take this as me trying to defend them, but unless it was a direct attack on a real person, a permanent instead of a temporary ban without a previous warning seems quite drastic and unfair.

Bans get really tricky. There is a lot of who did what, where, how, and severity. Especially when you break TOS for a certain game on a third-party site. So for example, Dragon Age on Steam. So for AHQ, Community Managers can only handle the accounts here. We have no say in Steam boards. The caveat to that would be the Studio team as mentioned above. They have more power. It is a rough one for sure, and def super frustrating.

  • @531cbd0ffa4f96f6 Hi 531cbd0ffa4f96f6,

Sorry to hear about the ban! I recommend reaching out to Steam Support to ask for clarification and appeal the decision. Also, review the forum rules and ToS to ensure there wasn’t a misunderstanding.

    Best of luck!
