[Steam] PC Stuttering During Gameplay

Hi guys, playing veilguard on my pc with a 3080 and an intel 11700k and was having a lot of stuttering problems. Have turned it down to have ll settings on low and capped at 60fps but stuttering is still happening every minute or so of gameplay and in menus.

I have the latest drivers from NVIDIA, is there anything else someone can suggest

    @jd463 Hey, those specs shouldnt have any issues. The one thing I would ask is if you are using more than one drive? Do you have it installed to an SSD, and is the Steam or the EA app installed on that same drive?

    The other issue I noticed that may help is to close down the app you aren't using. I have a lot due to work, so when I load up the game, I start closing them down to see what happens.

    Try that and let me know if it changes. Also if you have the overlay on, disable that too.

  • Stutters might be a shader problem. Have you tried forcing the game to compile shaders again? You can do so by going to the folder where the game is installed and deleting the subfolder shader_cache. The game will then recompile shaders when you launch it next.

    Thanks for the reply, have just tried that and still getting the same issues. Every start up of the game I have done it has compiled the shaders but has stopped since I deleted the folder. Any other ideas?

    You know this is a big one for me. Shadders are heavy even on my gaming rig which shouldn't be an issue. I would definitely make some alterations to the shadders.

    Thanks for the reply, steam was on a different drive to the game itself so have just moved it over to the same one. Will try running it again when I’m free to see if the issues persist and get back to you.

    @jd463 No worries.

    So with this title, the biggest things that they are very heavy on are the following

    Game/Platform on the same drive
    The game should be on SSD if you have one. HDD has a bunch of issues.
    Windows and GPU drivers updated
    Overlay off
    Have as few programs on one monitor if you have multiple monitors.

    I've gone through so many of these and made changes. I have an RTX 4070 and I've had to make changes myself but I have a bajillion things running since its a gaming rig

    Thanks so much for your suggestions, I will be able to check all of that when I’m free. If that fails I think I’ll have to look at deeper issues with the hardware itself!

    thanks again!!
