Arlathan Forest specific spot crash

This problem first occurred probably a couple of weeks after updating my AMD GPU driver to 25.5.1 last month during my fourth playthrough some time after the start of Act 2. Soon after I left the Veil Jumper base, I noticed some frame rate drops and as I traveled along the path to the docks, the game suddenly crashed. This has happened multiple times and sometimes I got lucky enough to reach the area near the docks (picture provided) before the game crashed again.

I had tried everything but none of the methods below worked.

  • Repair the game by verifying game files integrity on Steam
  • Downgrade the AMD GPU driver to a previous version (25.4.1)
  • Reset shader cache on AMD Adrenalin
  • Set graphics to "Low"
  • Disable triple buffering
  • Switch off all mods

Here are my PC specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • Radeon RX 7800 XT
  • 32GB RAM

Confusingly, the game didn't crash (but still suffering some frame rate drops) whenever I fast-travelled to areas away from the docks and the Veil Jumper base.

I like this game and I don't want my current fourth and future playthroughs ruined just because the game crashes every time I walk out of the Veil Jumper base and head to the docks.

Please add a DxDiag to your next reply.

A DxDiag is an overview of your PCs technical features and recent software errors.
There is no personal info in it except for the “Machine name” in the second row.
(You might delete the “Machine name” line if you wish too.)

    How to create a DxDiag:

    1. Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Copy and paste or type "DxDiag" (Without the quotes) into the new field. > ENTER
    3. Wait until the green bar is gone > Click on "Save all information"
    4. Save the file to your desktop.
    5. Here at EA Forum > Click Replay > Click the paper clip icon at the bottom of the replay Window.
    6. Navigate to the "DxDiag.txt" on your desktop > select the "DxDiag.txt" > click on "Open".
    7. Reply.

There are many "LiveKernelEvent" errors pointing to AMD soft or hardware problems on your system.

    1.  Follow this manual to the letter to clean uninstall all AMD driver components.
IMPORTANT: if you use a Pin to log into Windows 11 don't use DDU in safe mode!
Use it in your normal Windows session.
    2. Install the newest available graphics driver for your RX 7800 XT > Go online.
    1. Test.

Wait, what? May I ask why?

Because Windows 11 has a unfixed Bug that leads you into a boot loop if you use a pin and try to boot into Save mode.

I've finally figured out why my game often crashed at specific spots in Arlathan Forest. The main culprit is the Frosty Mod Manager itself.

I Google'd whether there were posts about Veilguard crashed due to mods and my search led me to a Steam forum for Dragon Age: Inquisition. One of the posters complained about how his Inquisition game often crashed due to the Frosty Mod Manager.

I tested the theory and played Veilguard without using Frosty to launch the game. I went to the spots in Arlathan Forest where I often got crashes and got nothing. I tried it several times, fought the enemies near the docks and got nothing. No stuttering, no crashes.

So... yeah, it's because of Frosty Mod Manager. Even if you launch the game using Frosty with no mods enabled, it will still crash. :V
