Character appearance resets after loading a save

This problem started when I first started playing the game. For some reason, if I try to load an old save, it seems like there a 2/3 chance of it loading in a standard default character appearance. On trialling it, sometimes quitting the game and reloading the most recent save works, but any older saves revert the appearance. There also still a chance of it happening even on the most recent save. I can take screenshots if necessary.

I'm playing the game from Steam, if that helps make things clearer.

I've been having this issue since I got the game at launch. It's so frustrating!!! I feel like I'm forced to play some **bleep** default preset instead of the one I spent 4+ hours on. I think a majority of my playtime is me restarting/reloading saves a million times just so it isn't broken... I've barely gotten to play because I've just been restarting the **bleep** game over and over.

I really hope they fix this, it's so annoying and breaks me out of immersion to see my character become someone else after going to a new area/loading a save. Who knew messing up Solas' ritual would disfigure my character into a temu knockoff 99% of the time.............maybe this is the real consequence of my actions of messing with the ritual..............................

I'm having more or less the same issue, except it's a roll of the dice during each major load screen. If I fight a mini boss, die an continue from last save it's anyone's guess if I'll have my characters face and hair or the original default look. Regardless of what shows while playing in the character screen it still shows my custom look. I've tried altering graphics setting to help worth processing but it's not helped. All that helps is constantly closing and reopening a save until it decides to actually load my character look. The mirror only helps sometimes.

The same thing is happening to me, mine just changed to default during a cut scene, and now I'm at a place where there is no mirror, so I bought a helmet....lol

Mine only seems to happen when loading into Treviso and then it carries through to any other area I enter.  If I go to the mirror, it still says I have my saved appearance, even though the new one clearly is one of the defaults.  It doesn't matter if I load a game or simply teleport to Treviso, it does it regardless.

Its a lot easier to fix by going to the mirror. Your custom is saved there, you just need to go click it and confirm

Having the same problem here. Spent ages making my character look the way I wanted, only to get reverted to a random ugly default in the first five minutes of the game. I'm not thrilled. Have you found any way to revert back to the way they are supposed to look?

Yes! Took me three tries following another post’s somewhat solution but I got her back. I had to quit the game and reenter my save 3 times for it to work. Note: the original post said it worked 2/3rds of the time when loading the most recent save, but I loaded from my manual save which was not the most recent twice. The last time which worked I reloaded to an autosave that happened when I tried loading other saves originally to fix the problem. Even though the autosave occurred while the characters appearance was bugged her appearance and voice appear to be fixed. So I’d try quitting, restating the game, and loading the most recent save until it works

Yes this exactly - the most recent save seems to be the most reliable for recovering it, though on mine it does take a few tries - usually three. Once its there, I can progress in the game fine without my character appearance changing. But I can't go back to an old save without it happening, and once I've attempted to reload an old save the game won't load my character's custom appearance at all. So I then have to quit, restart the game and load the most recent save again in the hopes it will work. Very frustrating!
