Error loading save

I had just started Dragon Age the Veilguard and was experiencing some lag at the ritual site. I changed a couple graphics settings and restated the game and when I tried to load my save I encountered this problem. Restarting my PC did not solve the issue. The graphics settings were changing: lighting quality to medium, the terrain quality setting to medium and the terrain decoration setting to medium from high.

  • What is your EA ID or Console ID (PSN ID/Gamertag)?
    • lilllilly123
  • What platform are you playing on?
    • PC, Windows 11, Steam
  • What is happening? (and what do you expect to happen instead?)
    • Expecting a save to load, it is not.
  • Does this happen in a specific area of the game?
    • hard to say, none of the saves are loading before that area but before changing the graphics settings there was no reason to load a previous save. I made a new character, all the same settings, and when I tried to load one of those saves from the main menu I found that that save would load, however the character loaded without hair even after the train textures had generated.
  • Please share any steps you've tried so far to resolve the issue:
    • Restarted the game, restarted steam, tried to load a different save, restarted PC, tried loading from a different character
  • If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip...
    • As a note this is the least helpful error message I have ever seen.
    •

  • If on PC, please share a DxDiag file and an EA app Error ID Number
    • The error does not give me access to either of these.

HellowRageox Est-ce que le jeu est installé sur un SSD ou un HDD? Pouvez-vous joindre un DxDiag ?

I hope it's okay to ask a question of an older thread: Is it still true that an internal SSD is required? I just ordered an external SSD, hoping that would fix my issues (I wanted one for other reasons, but this was the final push for it).

I had been running the game on HDD at the moment on lowest settings. Other than fps drops and occasional save loading error/Rook loading as different appearances (fixed by reloading in Lighthouse), I didn't have a major issue. Got all the way to the endgame. But I got to the first endgame mission and all the way to the big boss at the end where I died, suddenly I can't load any of the autosaves or hard saves of that mission, only the pre-mission saves back at the lighthouse (they also give me errors, but let me load in... with Rook looking different). I can't even restart the mission, because trying to leave the party-selection menu gives me the error screen same as trying to load the save file. My character is basically soft-locked from finishing the game.

I was hoping installing the game on an external SSD would help fix it. I am on a 2017 Mac (Bootcamp) and can't install an internal SSD. Did it end up working for you, somehow? I'm sorry to bother you so many months later.

EDIT: technical info for EA mods.

    EA ID: gaazhagens
Which platform are you on? Steam
If possible please share a copy of your Save file in a reply to this thread. Attached in a zip file to this post.
If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip. (It looks like every screenshot in this thread. The "LOAD ERROR" message.)
DxDiag file: I don't know what this is. The error does not give me this information.
Error ID Number: The error does not show a number on the screen.

gaazhagens Technically it can run on an HDD but should be on an SSD as that is how it was designed and the graphical settings it runs. I have run the game on an external and internal SSD. Both work fine. For the External, I had to do some tweaking based on my own system. You may need to do it, but you should be okay.

Thank you very much for your reply. I'm really hoping I get a solution to this. It's very agonizing to come so far in my first playthrough, only to be unable to finish now that I'm at the endgame.

How did you resolve the issue in your system with the external SSD? You said you did some tweaking? My graphics settings and such are all on low and have been for my whole playthrough. Will that be enough, or is there some other setting that might help? Perhaps a setting generally with my computer? I would welcome any advice. (My SSD should arrive sometime this week; I am still on HDD at the moment, so I can wait and test your advice when my SSD comes. Thank you!)

All i did was change some of the graphics to match my specific monitor. When I installed it to the external, I cleaned out as many DA files as I could from the internal one. And I put half my saves into a separate folder when I loaded the game, it only saw X amount of new saves. As the saves should be here, I removed what I wasn't using so when the game loaded, it didn't load as much data at one time. As long as the game/Steam/EA app etc all match to the directory, the rest will be just matching your monitor really.

I see. I have less than the 100 limit, but I definitely have quite a lot. Key moments or cutscenes that I thought maybe I would revisit sometimes, just for memories. But I don't ever really revisit them, except when there is a loading issue like the one discussed here, so I don't need them... I wish the 100 limit would work, if it says it allows that many saves and having older backup saves in-game felt like a security when the game wouldn't load on certain map levels. It feels like removing a safety net. But I don't need so many in the game files, you are right. I can keep a backup of them.

May I ask for clarity, as far as "all match the directory"? You first removed them from the physical directory (manually removing the saves to a backup folder from the C drive save file location), and then you opened the game from its new SSD location? If done in this order, the game wasn't trying to search for older save files because all it found in its save file folder were the files you left there? That should help fix it? I'm sorry for asking so many questions. Thank you so much for your advice! I appreciate your time and patience with me.

When i move the game to the external, I use a registry cleaner to clean any internal drive I have. I have an SSD for Windows/some games, and an HDD for older games and just files.

When I move the game to the external, I make sure the registry is cleaned. Doesnt matter what order you do it in. As long as you arent changing any other folders like the actual save folder. You can remove half the save files you have to a folder on the desktop if you wanted to just to test it. Not a step I do because I am under 50 saves so I don't worry about that. But the file path you want accurate when the game launches. The external drive location would be fine, as long as it loads save from where the save folder should be. Some players change that location.
