Hair color keeps changing

I’m playing Veilguard on PS5, and I have a medium blonde preset hair color. It changes constantly depending on the lighting (despite looking fine in the different lighting options of character creation); for instance, sometimes it’s black, other times it’s brown, etc. The game seems to be running fine otherwise, but the hair color changing wildly is frustrating! Just wanted to report it in case others were experiencing it as well.

  • For those still having  this problem, there are two mods on Nexus Mods that correct this problem.  They've altered the shading of the hairstyles with their mod.  I got a new video card and have all my settings maxed on Ulta and mine still does this without the mod, especially bad in Arlathan where the lighting is so glaring.

Thanks for the update, can you link me the shading so I can take a look and send it over to the team? Maybe they can take a look at it and see whats happening on the backend.

I'm pretty sure that they're referring to the mods that change the shadow values for strand hair. The ones that I know of are these:

These mods sort of solve the problem to varying degrees of success... I'll add screenshots and additional details, etc., momentarily. In the process of gathering info, graphics drivers crashed (another fun issue that so far only happens with this game), so I have to restart, and I'm going to submit this post to avoid having to redo the links, etc.

Updating to add screenshots, etc. You can see that there's some improvement with Strand Hair Shadow Tweaks enabled. But it causes all hair to look more flat in lower lighting. And light hair still ends up looking dark in various lighting situations.

The Better White Hair mod increases reflective values too much, and the same hair looks bright white in most light, and glows in all of the same locations except for the character screen. It doesn't cause other hair to look flat (e.g., Harding and Bellara), but I wouldn't say that it fixes the problem for Rook's light hair at all.

The Lighter Hairstyles mod doesn't affect the same hairstyle, but with a similar hairstyle (the looser, higher-set bun), the effects were similar to Strand Hair Shadow Tweaks.

Avaraen, this is fantastic information! I love details on what the players do. That way, I can forward this to the team(s), and they can examine what is different and consider future changes to the games!

Of the three mods, my favorite is Lighter Hairstyles.
