Had this happen twice now first time didn’t really care because the item I bought was not expensive but I just spent over 1000 gold in a great staff and it took my gold but no staff equipped or in my inventory. Very annoying.
Are you sure it wasn't an "appearance" that you can apply to the staff from Rook's wardrobe?
Well I wouldn’t expect an appearance item to have better stats than my current weapon.
I feel like I had the same issue, I bought an appearance item in Treviso, the Guardian's Flatbow, and simply don't have it.
I have the same exact issue with the same exact appearance item. Just bought it, but it's nowhere to be found. Glad it's not just me.
