Unequipping Items Bug - PS5

Hello, this is my first time reporting a bug, so I hope I'm doing it right. I can't unequip items! Or, I can, but they don't show that I have. Let me explain. I wanted to change out my mage Rook's staff for a better one, so I selected to unequip the staff. However, it still shows me as holding the other staff instead. And I've had the same stupid helmet on since I've picked it up in Arlathan, and I can't take it off! Even in the wardrobe, I can't take it off. It's making the game unenjoyable :( It only allows me to equip other helmets but it won't let me unequip a helmet at all.
