EA Desktop BETA loses focus while in game

While in game (TF2) using the new EA Desktop Beta, the in-game overlay causes you to lose focus and minimizes the game to desktop while playing. This is the same behavior I saw with Origin in-game overlay. For you to understand better, my rig has three monitors: 1 x gaming monitor (center); 2 x regular monitors (one to either side of the gaming monitor). When in game with the overlay on and game in fullscreen, the mouse pointer will appear. As the pointer moves out of the gaming area onto one of the side displays, you click, and the game loses focus, then minimizes to the desktop. Very frustrating during game play. Again, this is the same behavior I've seen in Origin overlay. When I turn it off on Origin, the problem goes away, however, I lose all of the overlay in-game features (naturally). I couldn't readily find the "off" button for the overlay on the EA Desktop, so quit out of it and started using Origin again.

Please note, this usually starts happening after the 1st or 2nd game, the will manifest itself. It can happen on the first match, though. I don't believe this is due to the game (TF2), as the problem goes away as soon as you turn the overlay off. Below is my setup:

Proc: i9-9900k

Mobo: Gigabyte Z390

GPU: EVGA RTX 2080 Ti XC2

RAM: 48GB 3200Mhz

SSD: ADATA 1TB NVMe M.2

PS: EVGA 850w

Hey @Paulster_Deux this can happen with a multiscreen setup.

If you are clicking on any screen bar the one you are playing on then you will lose focus. The best thing I can recommend is that before playing you hit Windows+P and set it so that your secondary monitors are not in use when gaming.

I found out today, unlike Origin, this happens with or without in-game overlay. Not boding well for EA desktop.

  • Anytime someoone sends a message, or the webpage on the EA app loses connection (often), it will take focus and minimize me out of apex. App is unusable in this state. Please fix it ASAP. There is no way to turn this off. Not sure if this has been tested or not...

Hey @crinklypappper I'd recommend that you disable notifications when playing to stop this occurring.
